On-tap at Bruery Provisions

An color with an off-white head. Heavy bubblegum, candy, sugar, and banana aromas to this. A nice touch of dates, but it could use more. Toasted malt and toffee are also prominent. Tastes fairly sweet, but manages to not be cloying. Lots of bubblegum and banana with a good amount of sugar and dates. A light toasted character to it and a slight yeastiness.

This does have a little more yeasty flavor than many Dubbels. It's also less sweet. More watery body than typical of the style, but it's pleasing and refreshing here. Clear dark amber in the Saxo tall tulip. Attractive foam that lasts well and lots of lacing. A scratchy hoppy note along with the drying effect of the Belgian yeast. The dates are just part of the complexity and add a little fruitiness without standing out. Pleasing maltiness.

Nicely sudsy in the mouth. Another attractive label from Hangar 24, and another interesting beer from a brewery that seems to be getting its act together. Thoroughly drinkable with the restrained sugars. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Barons Marketplace on Point Loma Blvd.

This pours a lightly tawny color with little foam. The aroma is what I’d expect from a dubble, with a light bubblegum aroma being most prominent. The flavor hits with the gum, not so much the ‘palmero’/date character I was excited for. Decent, especially if you enjoy the style.

On tap at Hangar 24 Brewery in Redlands, CA.

Pours a hazy copper with a foamy bone head that settles to tiny dots of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, fruit, and spices. Taste is much the same with sugary and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but I am not getting any real date aromas or flavors from this one.
