Appearance: Auburn colored, quickly disappearing head, and a wee bit of carbonation visible.

Smell: Caramel and booze.

Taste: Roasted malts, caramel, coffee, and smoke.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and dry.

The Verdict: Not bad. A solid Scottish ale, this malty brew goes down smooth. Not the head of the class maybe, but it’s everything it should be.

Great label and name however, not sure how this got into the scotch ale category from a taste perspective. This is likely to temper my comments. Tasted more like a brown. Very clean pour and taste. Improved as it warmed.Nice looking color but not a lot of depth. Better than ave

Straight to the point: It had a faint "band-aid" smell. The taste was malt forward with a stronger hop finish. Decent color, carbonation and mouthfeel. A decent beer though not a scotch ale. I would drink this beer, but not order it in the future.

Nothing remarkable.

1674th Review on BA
Draft to Mug

@Hooters of Ontario

App- When this came out, It was filled to the brim and only had a couple bubbles on the top of it. A nice swirl produced some quick fading bubbles, but not much. A nice auburn brown color that was a bit dense. Hard to tell from a frozen mug.

Smell- It was a bit muted due to being cold, but I would call this more of a strong ale. A good strong malt backbone with some caramel, some citrus and a bit of booze on the nose. Fairly strong but a bit one dimensional.

Taste- It was just an okay beer. Even as it warmed most of the flavors seemed there but just small. Malty, caramel rich and a little citrus with some what I would call, a rye spice. Like a bread or mixed with a small roggenbier note.

Mouth- A bit light of the medium side of things with a bit of a thicker medium carbontion. (A bit cold, so a bit thick) Residual flavors of the caramel and malts remain.

Drink- I wanted something new at Hooters and this was the best I could get. It was my bad to not ask for a different glass. Oh well. Still like Hangar 24 overall.

quick review- first brew of the evening....
very interesting toffee, caramel color. no head, no carbonation, flat-looking.
smells like toffee. one dimensional smell, constant in its aroma.
tastes of roasty malt, with a little twang of bitterness. very flat-feeling with only a semblance of some crisp micro-bubbles (maybe) popping on the tongue. half-way through i got a strong familiar taste/scent(?) of hazelnut.
overall, very drinkable, nice abv for the effort; tasty. i love the color, but it is very plain to look at aside from the beautiful toffee brown. leaves a pleasant hop aftertaste. i like the last guy's review- it really hit it on the head....
update on 3/30/13: 4 pak is only $3.99 at Total Wine. compared to the $7.99 before, this is a great deal. and it's still flat...

It should be noted this was the second bottle i opened in order to review this beer, the first tasted flat and had no head. I'm not going to dock any points on that because it seems like a fluke.

Served out of a 12oz bottle into a Duvel tulip glass probably around 50F. Purchased at Total Wine in Redondo Beach, CA.

A - Pours a medium brown with about an inch or two of off-white head, slight lacing.

S - Roasted Malt, slight coffee, faint smokey smell.

T - for a 6.5% ABV winter warmer beer, it tastes exactly like it should (and smelled). Not overwhelming, but strong flavors of roasted malt, coffee, faint smoked wood, and maybe toffee?

M - Light and very clean mouthfeel, doesn't leave a heavy residue on the tongue like some other winter warmers like Avery's Old Jubilation or Lost Coast Winterbraun, but still enough to make me not want to brush my teeth before i go to bed at night.

O - I like this beer. I had it on tap about a month prior at the brewery and remembered it being a little better, but we'll leave that one for the bottle vs. tap debate. At $7.99 a 4-pack and 6.5% ABV I'll probably seek out other winter warmers that have a little higher alcohol content and come in 6 packs for about the same price (specifically the two mentioned above), but still decently affordable and maybe easier to consume during the day than those other two mentioned. Overall a great beer!

On tap at the BevMo Holiday Beerfest held at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, and some fruity aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

Handsome auburn reddish brown in the narrow Crooked Line tulip. Quite adequate foam with nice lacing in the glass. Tangy on the tongue with some spice in the nose.

Warm malt flavors with plenty of mellow roast. Rich without being too sweet. A little bitterness sneaks up to provide a little edge. Hops are stated by the brewery to be both American and English and rated at 39 IBU. This is not particularly bitter, if you think of SN Celebration and other Christmas beers. There are some fruity flavors which give this a sense of the English style, and you could call this a Winter Warmer in that vein. Or maybe it's a California Scottish ale. In any case it's quite drinkable and interesting.

Nice dark and bitterish aftertaste. This must be my favorite Hangar 24 beer. From the 12 oz bottle bought at Bine & Vine in San Diego.

On-tap at Beachwood I,

A: Pours a medium red brown with a light white head, some lace.

S: Roasty malt, toast, biscuit, hint of smoke.

T: Dry cracked grain bread flavour upfront. Very toasty. As the beer warms the malt flavours come together and make a very solid brew. Malt-dominated.

M: Though it is malt dominated it is still surprisingly dry. Medium-bodied at best, the beer doesn't have a huge amount of heft. Crisp carbonation, clean finish.

O: A solid winter beer, but nothing crazily good about it. I enjoyed the effort in the end, but this isn't a beer I would actively seek out.
