"Black farmhouse ale brewed with Belgian Pilsner, French Wheat, Candi Sugar, roast malt and farmhouse yeast. Aged for 6 months in three barrel types; Pinot Noir, Oregon Oak, and Bourbon with Brettanomyces. After barrel aging and blending, this dark ruby black ale is further matured with a touch of Oregon Tart Cherry."

Slightly more than the sum of its parts, but the earlier years had more richness and cherry, if plagued with some carbonation issues.

Thanks, Aaron! Served in a Block 15 tulip. Extremely dark and nearly flat. Nose has some cherry and whiskey plus a bit of anise. Flavor his a mild acidity and slight vinous notes. Pretty interesting, but didn't have the complexity and depth that I was hoping for.

A huge thanks to James (cavemanlawyer) for this beer. Cheers!
Not sure why this gets such hate. This is very “sour stoutesque”, a style I rather enjoy I must admit (if done right).
Appearance – Pours into my trusty tulip with an opaque color and a finger of tan head.
Smell – Malts, cocoa, dark fruits, nice tart cherries, slight plum.
Taste – Great tart cherries and plums. This has much more plum than the new JP Cinco. Oak comes through midway which then fades to a nice bittersweet cocoa and roasted malts. Slight vinegar and lactic acid. More sour than others are mentioning; it appears time has made this a bit more puckering.
Mouthfeel – Medium bodied, decent carbonation.
Overall – Very enjoyable beer. I would gladly have this again and hope to get another to age.

Poured at cellar temp, corked and caged bottle, 2011 vintage.
A: Very dark brown, with a large creamy tan head. Good display of carbonation.
S: Funky dark fruit, with a little chocolate and roast. Some grassy / herbal notes hiding in there as well. Pretty restrained aroma.
T: Starts rich and malty with chocolate notes, then kicks in with sour cherry and funk, then the finish returns to chocolate, with an acidic, mildly alcoholic finish. This is a fun ride!
M: a lot of carbonation manifesting as foaming on the tongue. Pretty dried out, medium-light body.
O: Greatly improved from my memories of this beer fresh, when it seemed a little disjointed. Time seems to have melded the flavors nicely and I think it's drinking really well right now.
