375 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy pale orange. Small head. Very thin collar.

Smell - Oak. Lactic acid. Stone fruits. Some funk. It is reminiscent of a Belgian sour, but not quite. Cheesy.

Taste - Lemony sourness. Oak. Some funk. Hay and grain. Nice.

Mouthfeel - Minimal carbonation. Nice sourness, never oppressive.

Overall - Excellent American sour. Never going to be as good as a Belgian, but still good.

375ml : tulip

Pours a beautiful, hazy golden color with a fizzy, quickly dissipating white head, that leaves only a faint ring around the rim.

Really inviting sour, tart, oak, floral notes in the nose.

Lots of oak, with some lemon, and floral notes, funky, slightly musty, quite sour, puckering, but not harsh.

Medium+ body, fizzy, foamy carbonation.

A very well done American-gueuze. Still a relatively young blend, which it shows in the flavor. I was unsure as to what I should expect from this. I was very pleasantly surprised, and hope to be able to try more of this style from Block 15.

Thanks S!

A - Pours a clear, medium orange with a fizzy off-white head that is gone instantly.

S - Sweet, oaky, slightly floral.

T - Tart with some honey flavors, not very sweet, oaky and nice funk.

D - Good carbonation with a light to medium body.

O - A nice funk and flavors. B15 killed it on this one. So good.

Bottle that Brian was kind enough to share. What a magnificent beer.

Pouring a clear yellow with a dense, white head, this looks like what you'd expect. The nose is just incredible. Initially, there's a distracting sulfury note, but this dissipates quickly revealing an incredibly funky nose. Lemon peel ( a little rotten), grass, hay, tangerines, a moderate sourness (blend of citric and lactic with a touch of acetic). Juicier and sweeter than most gueuzes, but this is a remarkable first attempt. The palate opens with a blend of moderate (appropriate) sourness, a blend of limes and lactic acid, along with just a ton of funk. Musty, a little footy, and quite juicy, this is really good. There's a flavor that's a blend of tangerines and yellow cake/toasted sugar as well. This is something that's not usually found in Belgian gueuzes, but its presence isn't to the beers detriment. Softly sour and quite funky on the finish, this light bodied beer is excellently conditioned and is a treat. Highly recommended.
