Poured into a tulip.

A- pours a murky brown with only a touch of head that quickly subsides to a whisper. thick from the look of it. not too bad.

S- straight up theres a whole bunch of slightly burnt toffee, some dark dried fruit, sultana and apricot, alcohol is a feature, but mainly a whole bunch of toffee. smells pretty nice.

T- straight up there is a massive hit of toffee, very very sweet toffee, again there is some fruit and a touch of alcohol, but the sweet toffee really dominates. not too bad, but the toffee on the nose was a little more subdued, allowing the other flavours to come through, doesn't do this so much in the taste. a little one dimensional.

M- a little on the thick side, little carbonation, a somewhat sticky. go's with the style, but lacks a bit at the finish.

O- a pretty good effort at a style not done too much here. however a little too sweet. if the sweetness was dulled a bit, or it finished a touch bitter to balance the sweetness i would have enjoyed it much more.

330ml bottle from Slowbeer, poured into a Lost Abbey tulip glass. A barleywine with "never! cellar it" on the label...right...

Pours a ruby brown colour with a slowly forming off-white head of foam that falls almost quicker than it formed.

Smell is boozy and sweet, fortified wine aroma, plenty of dark fruits like figs and stewed plums. Intense.

Taste is very sweet as well, (hoping the chemist is still open to get some insulin!), rich, dark fruity and very warming fortified wine taste.

Mouthfeel is very rich, full and matched well to a 10.3% ABV beer.

A big, slow-sipping, intense and at times boozy Barleywine. Plenty of flavour, a bit going on, but i think at times the booze can hit a bit.

Pours a very dark amber colour, mostly red really. Head is off-white, just small bubbles and not a lot of foam. Lace is lovely and thick, as you'd expect. Looks decent, but nothing a 2-year homebrew veteran couldn't manage.

Massive sweet smell, but an odd savoury note as well. Huge caramel malt mixes with a big nuttiness - walnuts and macadamias, but a saltiness that borders on sweaty. It's a real peanut brittle kind of aroma; if that weird saltiness could get toned down it could be great.

Taste is very sweet, but not quite as explosively malty as one might expect. Lots of caramel and toffee on there with an underlying fruitiness - sherry, figs and marmalade add a nice tang to the overriding sweetness. Nutty notes come through late - caramelised macadamias and peanut brittle, still retains a hint of that salty character from the nose but it's quite successful in tempering the sweetness on this occasion. It's still just a big, syrupy-sweet beer, and points for hiding that booze behind the smooth, complex sugars. I actually don't love it but I can feel the technique involved on the palate more so than any other aspect, so good work, brothers.

Full and thick body as you'd expect, but no real texture to it. Can't say it's wonderful.

A nicely made beer, but it doesn't wow me.

This pours beautifully with a classic, darek amber colour with reddish highlights and a moderate light tan head. Decent head retention and nice legs.

Sweet malty aroma with lots of fruity esters. For me there is just a hint of nut to the malt but the deep, yet fresh, fruitiness dominates. There is a touch of spicy alcohol. There is insufficient malt character and depth here.

Very sweet with a slightly toasty malt profile. Again, there is lots of fruit here with pear, raisin and grape playing a role. Slightly vinous. I find that there is a lack of depth to the malt and that the finish is slightly limp.

Medium body with moderately-high carbonation. This is fine for this particular beer.

A fair attempt at the style but it lacks the depth of flavour and malt character that the classic English examples have.

A - Slightly hazy, very dark copper with a 2cm off white head that sits for a little bit.
S - Big toffee notes with some sweet dried dark fruit aroma. Touch of diacetyl.
T - Like the smell; dominated by sweet toffee and dark fruit notes.
M - Medium to full bodied, quite sweet but thankfully not cloying. Low carbonation.
O - Worth trying but a bit one dimensional in my opinion.
