Pours a hazy honey brown color with a short dense cream colored head. The head settled into a light ring with some lacing on the glass.

The aroma is sweet, almost candy like. Musty fruit notes and toffee from the malt. Some apricot and tropical fruit aromas from the hops. I don't pick up much of the rye in the nose. Not a big fan of this aroma.

The taste is of a big bready malt. Some sour and peppery notes from the rye. Caramel and toffee sweetness. Apricot and pineapple hop flavors. Not a big fan of the combo of a sweet malt and tropical fruit forward hops. There is a dry grassy bitterness in the finish that is greatly needed.

Moderate feel is tingly carbonation. Sweet on the palate but there is a drying finish. The dry finish is appreciated in this beer to offset the sweetness.

This beer is not my cup of tea; I am just not a big fan of the hop profile.

Enjoyed this little gem at bayfest where it was debuted...was pumped when a week later 250 bottles were released out to the wild! Bottle picked up at the release a few days ago, enjoyed from a great South Bay snifter.

Bottle #1 of 250!!!! KILLER label too

a - brew pours a shimmering transparent copper with a really nice almost creamy bubbly head with decent staying power. As the head dissolved, a thick ring of creamy froth was left clinging to the glass on the surface of the beer. Oil slicks of tiny bubbles swarm around small islands of larger bubbles. Lace was thick and left a skin on the glass. Great glow.

s - nose is spot on! I love a good rye beer and I love a solid IPA (who doesn't?) the two styles are married in the nose with good representation on both sides of the fence. A fairly sweet, crisp, clean, almost soapy citric pine is glazed with rye spice to keep things wild and crazy.

t - big fat in your face resinous hopping is washed over with rye graininess. Finishes with a bitter reminder that this is an IPA. Fairly sweet, but the rye keeps things in check.

m - pretty big and bold...reminiscent of hoppocratic oath, but way softer and not boozy. Bittery finish. Juicy. Aggressively hopped. Body has a silkiness to it while the flavor remains rich.

o - overall, glad this was bottled so I could dig in without the fatigued palate of a beer fest. It feels like hoppocratic oath lite with rye...and the rye rounds everything out. The hops have a rich almost syrup quality to it (think squishy from the kwik e mart) that took my palate a bit to get adjusted to but I found myself really digging the richness of the flavors. If I could tweak the taste a touch I would dial up the rye a smidgen, and pull back the hop sweetness a bit. Really enjoyable beer, hope this one becomes a regular rotation beer.
