bomber from es fred meyer 6/25/14. pours a deep golden yellow, very clear - though not crystal clear - wonderful thick off-white head dies down to leave a thin layer, semi-sticky lacing all the way down. grassy clean hoppy smell, fresh, summer-like, yet near the end of the glass there's a hint of astringency. taste is a bit of a let down, though it's not quite my favorite style, and it says experimental on the label. hops are there, but not as citrus-like and i'd prefer. mouth feel is decent, with a snappy finish, and carbonation hangs around for a bit.

22oz bottle labeled Best by 10/11/14 and 5.9% ABV. Served in a pint glass, the beer is golden in color with a giant golden head. Very foamy. Delicious tropical fruit aroma. Intensely palatable and deliciously drinkable. Great balance between a sold biscuity malt backbone and a judicious use of hops. Carbonation is quite restrained in this bottle. Finishes clean, mostly, with a slight aftertaste of piney hops. Would drink again.

Pours a finger and half of head on a hazy straw colored body.
The aroma is just lots of pine, but good.
The taste is nicely balanced pine bitterness and honey sweetness.
The texture is smooth with low carbonation.
It's very drinkable and tasty. The lower carbonation was nice too.

Clear golden amber with three fingers of dense cream colored head. Head lasts for more than five minutes leaving rings of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell is citrus hops and biscuit sweet malts.
Taste is citrus hops with with some white grapefruit bitterness. The malts are there but at a lower level than I would expect from the style. Closer to IPA proportions.
Light bodied with bold carbonation. Finish is acidic citrus bitterly dry.
Overall reminds me of the new session IPAs that are in the 5% abv. range. Alcohol is well hidden though.

Pours with gorgeous amber hue. Nice aromas of grass, herbs, citrus with hints of bread and malt. Not amazing, but very, very good. Wonderful on the palate with superb harmony and elegance. Rich yet polished and elegant. Rather good despite the initial impression of an average beer.

Bravo!

Agree with the 4+ reviews here. Review perhaps tainted by the fact that the Pearl brewpub had run out of The Abyss yesterday...this was my reason for going tonite. But the food there continues to improve measurably, and happy hour rocks. Malt-forward and especially zesty citrus appeal, more interesting than fresh-hopped Mirror Pond

First had: on tap at Deschutes, Portland, OR

Poured a clear copper color, moderately carbonated with a small, well-retaining, white head. Aroma was light, with tones of floral hops, grassy, with hints of citrus. Taste of caramel malts, crisp hops of the floral and piney nature, grassy and organic. Light-medium body and easily drinkable.

Imperial pint from cask at the Portland brewery. Lightly hazy amber with a surpisingly thick head for a cask beer. Almost looks like a nitro pour, actually. Excellent retention, good lacing.

Smells fresh and malty with a light fruitiness that really seems to open up more in the flavors than the nose (maybe that thick head blocked the fruitier aromas). Citric flavors here and there, but it's light grape and green apple notes that seem to linger the longest. Smooth yet lively, XPA was a nice beer to try, even with bigger, badder taps from Deschutes surrounding it on all sides.

On tap at the Portland Tasting room.

A - Pours a nice orange color with a lively tan colored head. Solid retention and lots of lacing left on the glass.

S - Pine, grassy, a bit floral or perfumy.

T - The floral tones dominate, but nice pine and grass also.

D - Good carbonation, no bitterness.

O - Pretty light, but a touch too floral for me.

A: Copper-bronze, white head, thin ring of retention, excellent lacing.

S: Bread, toffee & caramel gives way to plenty of citrus & grass.

T: Grassy-weed, resiny, grapefruit, rind, bread & caramel. Assertive bitterness.

M: Smooth moderate body has a light hop acidity.

D: A very good drinker.
