Cascadian Dark Ale with 62 IBUs from Brewer's Gold, Cascade and Centennial Hops.
Appearance is a very dark brown with a tight, creamy dark tan head leaving scattered lace.
Smell is super pungent hops, wow! Fresh citrus, very dank herbal hop punch for sure.
Taste is also all about the hops, resinous, citrus, strong bitterness, very intense. So much so that I had trouble finding the dark malts, although once my palate adjusted a bit to the hop smack down, some acrid char from black patent malts peaked through, particularly on the finish.
Mouthfeel is very creamy, dry, with a medium body.
Drinkability isn't too bad, but it's an abrasively hoppy beer, and the 10 oz glass I had was plenty (they replaced there generic schooner with a logo'd, footed pil flute). While I love huge, fresh hops, this was lacking the mellow maltiness of other CDAs, such as caramel and chocolate. Rather, the bitterness was accentuated by the acrid black malt.
Serving type: on-tap
