Served on-tap @ Deschutes Brewery & Public House in Portland and presented in a tulip glass. Pairs well with sweet potato fries and thai wings.
I take it that this is the brewer's second incarnation of Hop City. Hop City 2 is billed as a big, experimental IPA. "Pale and carapils malts were used to balance and carry the nine different hop varieties in this playground for hop junkies." I'm in.
Pours a cloudy golden orange with a billowy white head and decent lacing. Aromas of citrus, floral hops and pine. Glorious!
Taste mirrors the nose. Opens strong with citrus flavors, primarily grapefruit and orange zest. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Suggestions of tangerine and marmalade surface. Hop bitterness emerges and takes center stage before being deftly balanced with mild sweet malts. Finishes dry and wonderfully bitter (IBU's: 95) with a nod to what I assume to be Citra hops. Awesome stuff!
