This place has one of the nicest exteriors you will ever see and inside is not too shabby either, their brewing equipment is about as shiny as it gets, we sat down at the bar during happy hour on a Wednesday night, ordered the sliders for $4.50 and when they came their bite size and three of them, most expensive food in Portland size wise, it was not great either which made it worse, the atmosphere in here is very upscale and nice, everything in here was immaculate, they have a cool inventory of frisbees, shirts, glassware, bottles, etc. when you walk in the door too, service was very weak, there was probably too many people to be working in the first place, and then to boot they were all just standing around talking to each other rather than concentrating on the customers, saw a few other guests get anxious about it too, I had just had the 2005 vintage of Mirror Mirror out of the bottle a week before the trip but wanted to try it fresh on tap, so I ordered a snifter, they only filled it about a quarter of the way, literally five to six ounces for $5.25, another thing I was not particularly happy about with this place, the beer was good though but I prefer it with some age and out of the bottle I think, all else aside, they do have about eight brews that of their own that I have never seen or even heard about it, we tried them all and the only one that stuck out being above average was the bock, all their beers on tap only, there is about sixteen to eighteen of them if I remember correctly, cool place but a little expensive for me, I would still go back, recommended

Been here many times, most recently for the release of Abyss 2015 and its variants. Always enjoyed it, either for a quick beer or a couple hours of dinner and brews. I love the wood carvings throughout and the overall warmth the place exudes. Staff is friendly and quick and the food is excellent. I only wish they offered some more different beers. While you can taste most anything Deschutes brews, there's not a lot of experimental or one-off stuff. But that's really my only complaint. Stop by if you ever have the chance.

I'm not a fan of Deschutes...just being honest. We went for other breweries but figured we should stop in since Portland = Deschutes. Beer was as expected but food was great. We each had pub style food but there were plenty of other "nicer" options. I had an elk burger for the first time. Atmosphere was cool northwest.

Place is packed.
Parking is a challenge
Beers are excellent, but you can easily get in stores
Not really worth the hassle is you are not staying in downtown Portland

Cool place right in downtown Portland. Was super busy when I was there. There was some good beers, this is a good brewery even if it has been a little underwhelming lately. A few things unique to the place they don't bottle. Ultimately though, it falls short of being a beer destination to plan a vacation around.

Some of the single hop, cask varieties are ok, I tend to like more barrel aged selections and those seem few and far between. Food was decent, good salmon.

Well it was an interesting place at best, big open area, some barrels strewn about, big wooden beams with hard carved totem things. The place was very busy as expected. Decent bartops, old wood, 18ish taps on, 2 casks, all their own beers. Decent selection but nothing really special. Handful of bottles, lots of stainless and copper throughout. Bartenders were typical, fairly attentive and helpful, friendly. Didn't get any food, typical beer prices though. Tap list in general was a bit meh, but decent bottles to purchase. No water provided until I asked.

Visited Deschutes Brewery & Public House in Portland, OR on Thursday August 30, 2015.

The public house was packed on a Thursday night and there was a waiting line, but we got a table for 2 in about 10 minutes. There were tables outside, but we took an inside table.

There was a nice selection of beers available, many on draft. I had two pints of the Black Butte Porter, which were excellent. The waitress was very helpful. She answered all of our questions and was very friendly.

Although they were packed, we received our drinks quickly. The food was also served quickly. We enjoyed a leisurely dinner, and did not feel rushed.

I had the crab roll, which was very tasty. My friend had the Elk burger which was good as well.

There are many brewpubs in Portland (which is great for beer lovers). Deschutes is one that I will want to go back to again. I hope to go back and try their Obsidian Stout. The beer was great, and the food was good for a brewpub. Beer selection was good too.
