I stopped in with my boss, our plan was to have a beer or two and then go somewhere else for dinner. So much for plans, we had such a good time; we ended up staying for over 4 hours!
The long bar is to your left as you enter. There are dining areas to your right. I liked the high ceilings and all the windows as they give this place a very open, airy feeling.
We sat at the bar and received really excellent service from the three bartenders that were manning the bar. They all had plenty of beer knowledge, made good suggestions, were free with samples and were also very friendly and funny.
They had 6 regulars on tap plus an additional 6 or so rotators. They also offered some good bottle selections. I really enjoyed the fresh squeezed IPA, The Hop Henge and a big red whose name escapes me.
The food was great. I liked their take on wings, loved the big pretzel and really liked their soup.
All-in-all, a great experience for us. I realize Portland has a ton of good places and I think this one is in the top echelon. .

It is now a tradition for my group to go to the Deschutes brewpub in Portland every year after Oregon Brewers Festival. Of course, this means I've only ever been there when it was packed to the gills, but frankly I think that adds to the atmosphere.
They have about 20 taps lined up, including two cask offerings. Most of these are brews that they also offer in bottles, but there are a few pub-only choices. I went with the cask Stock Ale, which was a fine beer indeed. They had Black Butte XXVI on tap while I was there, which is still a bit young but quite tasty indeed.
Service at the bar was quite prompt and friendly despite the chockablock nature of the crowd in there; I was impressed. The atmosphere was great with a lot of beer lovers having a good time. The Pearl is a great neighborhood for a place like this; I always have a good time at the brewpub.
I enjoyed the food there, although a compatriot of mine had egregiously over-salted ribs. But, really, I don't go to Deschutes for the food.
