Another stop on my Portland tour.
It's open and friendly restaurant atmosphere. Lots of wood and this great wooden arches carved with scenes of the northwest. Somewhat impersonal though admittedly we didn't sit at the bar.
All the classic Deschutes offerings as well as some brewpub specials. I had the Big Rig Bitter, followed by the Bachelor Bitter on cask. Both excellent brews. The food was hit or miss. I had a very nicely done asparagus ravioli. But they had taken that classic misstep of fancying up the pub classic mac&cheese to rather unpalatable levels.
The server was well versed and friendly, but still impersonal. I didn't get the sense of 'beer geek' from her that I got from just about every other server I had during my time in PDX.
I'll still visit here my next time in PDX, if only to see what specials they have on tap. But there's too many other excellent and friendly places in the area to really devote much time here.

This was stop #18 for my wife and I on a 21-day pub-crawl from Michigan to N. CA and OR. We stopped here on a Saturday morning to enjoy their beers and to have lunch. The pub is located in corner building in a very busy section of the downtown area, and parking was difficult. We thought that we were early for the lunch hour, but we were sooo wrong. A 30 minute wait was needed before we were seated. (The bar area was jammed so I didn’t even try to get a beer to drink while waiting.)
The interior is nicely decorated to go with a beer pub theme, but because of the largeness of the place and the din of the large crowd I did not get a feeling of comfort that I like to have for a casual meal. We ordered the standard sampler flight of 6 beers (18 were available) to go along with our food. All of the beers was very well made, and all of them were better than average. The Two Step IRA was the most notable (we liked it better than Fresh Squeezed). The food was also very good.
Because of how busy this place was and the size of the noisy crowd we did not enjoy ourselves as much as we would have liked. However, the beer and the food are good enough reasons to come back here again, but we’d try to find a slack time to do so.
