A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer which is topped by a finger and a half of dense and slightly rocky light tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells super jammy with some dark berry notes, touch of dark chocolate, hint of coffee, and some oak
T: Taste is dark berries and some dark chocolate, hints of roasted malt, a touch of coffee, licorice, and some nice oak. On the swallow there's more oak, dark chocolate, licorice, coffee and dark berries
M: This beer has a pretty full body with a slightly syrupy feel. Carbonation is light but more than adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish due to the ABV.
O: Overall this is a really nice beer. This is balanced in flavor with some interesting nuances that make it a very enjoyable beer to drink. It would be nice to see them try to make this again

Pours black like a Black Tuesday, but as you move toward the edge, you see dark brown and eventually dark red if held up to the light. Aroma was Black Tuesday and some funky grape must.
Taste was definitely more bitter than Black Tuesday. It wasn't a hop derived bitterness, but the grape just took away from the Black Tuesday boozy smoothness I was used to. Perhaps the French Oak contributed to drying it out and making it a little more bitter. Then again, the beer probably is closed to 100ibu anyways. A little bit of a licorice in taste and bitterness, could do without that. Big red wine notes that are unique with this one. Its kind of overload, while I can appreciate the uniqueness and massiveness, it just is too much at once, the tannins, the french oak, the bourbon, too many port notes in the end. I still have another so maybe I'll like it more next time.

Bottled: 11/22/13
Opened: 11/22/17
A: Pours black with brown, reddish highlights. Off-white head is minimal, with little retention, and no lacing
S: Bursting with cherries, balsamic, and some grapes with assorted fruits. Aroma is vinous, port/red wine with some bourbon in the workings
T: The notes linger as it opens with vinous tones of apples, caramel, toffee, licorice, and a variety of herbs. More to explore in the traces of wood, and some vanilla elements with the French oak and roasted malt playgrounds. The intermingling of the assorted dark fruits and chocolate is sensible and delicate
M: A gentle body with generous carbonation yet fragrant, oily, and mellifluous. Heat seems to have mellowed with time, given the bottle and restrained backend burn
O: The vinous, port aspects don’t bring out the most sophisticated wine. Nonetheless, there’s something to say about the complexity, balancing, and intermingling of notes, especially as the temperature plays around

This one was an ok attempt but they really nailed it the second time around. Maybe it's my fault that I had this with a year to a year and a half age on it but there really wasn't enough grape to back up all the malt they had in there. Good attempt none the less with lots of chocolate and some fresh oak. Nice body and not too aggressive for the ABV

Was lucky to have the opportunity to try both Batch 1 and Batch 3 at a share recently on Super Bowl sunday! Batch 1 was great and a little more balanced as it has sat a while. Strong but delicious!
