This rustic beer is the result of barrel aging a blend of our Anniversary, English-style old ale, with Smoking Wood, an imperial smoked rye porter. Bois Fumé, meaning 'Smoking Wood' in French, is pleasantly sweet with a dry, peaty finish.

750ml bottle poured into tulip 4/4/17, thanks Beersnake1 for the bottle
a darkest cola when held to the light, two fingers of foam fall in no time leaving no lace but some legs and some color stick to the glass
s more smoke then I was expecting, peaty smoke, very earthy, chewing tobacco, hard toffee, some cocoa, brown sugar, not a whole lot of wood.....well un-burnt wood anyways, just a hint of booze and that's impressive all things considered
T smoked chocolate, leather, peat is still very noticeable, nice mix of chocolate smoke, and caramel, slightly more booze then the nose but much less then one would expect, some spicy somethings hiding in the background
M has weight but nowhere as thick as I would've guessed, oily inside and sticky on the lips, numbs the lips just a little with some heat but fairly tame, chocolate and peat have some staying power
O a bit of an odd mix but it works fairly well, fairly smokey but that's not a bad thing at all, just caught me off guard
I'm not really sure why I'm surprised that "Smoking Wood" would smokey, I'm guessing Bois isn't making up 50% of this blend.....

750ml bottle poured into a snifter
A- pours a murky brown color with a thin foamy white head that reduces to a ring around the edge of the glass
S- sweet aroma up front with notes of caramel, toffee & chocolate, followed by tobacco, leather & buttered rum. Undertones of smoke and peat, along with some oaky barrel notes
T- sweet caramel & toffee up front with notes of chocolate and molasses. The smoky notes kick in mid-palate, providing smoky malt, peat and bourbon barrel notes of oak & vanilla. The finish gives a bit of booze and more caramel and smoke
M- thick body with low carbonation leads to a viscous body that continues into a warming finish
O- a nice mix of the sweetness of the olde ale and the smoke of the Smoking Wood, alcohol is hidden pretty well, given the abv

ABV-killed loose tan over viscous black-brown. 4
Hot buttered rum with soy underneath. 4.25
Beef jerky, black rum, Muscavado, ash, cola, smoke, and Marmite. Vanilla creaminess as it warms. 4.5
Heavy, smooth, chewy. 4.25
Umami to the max, oak later as it opens. Big on sugar, but no heavy coffee or chocolate from the porter. Huge, but at 16%, what did you expect? Fairly epic. 4.5

I really liked this, although it wasn’t getting much notice at the bottle share. Smoky, peaty aroma and taste would make me think this more of a smoked beer than the string ale classified here. Nice woody notes from the barrels also.
