I've seem a lot of negative reviews of this and I get why people aren't into it. I absolutely love this. I wish I had another bottle for Christmas Day. Reminds me of my drunk aunts holiday eggnog. Nice and spicy and rummy and sweet. Smells of coconut rum and cinnamon. This would get me through awkward family photos and bad sweaters and terrible presents from people I hardly know. I certainly didn't expect a "balanced" beer out this. I expected an enormous bold juggernaut, and the Bruery and FFF delivered. Cheers.

Bottle share at Proof. Pours an inky black with tan head that faded into a medium collar. Good legs and lacing. Aroma is dark malt roastiness, some herb/spiced vegetalness. Taste is much like aroma, with a sweet vanilla/citrus. Really enjoyable. Thick and viscous mouthfeel, with low carbonation.

Poured jet black with a thin dark brown head which did not hold. Appeared viscous while pouring and swirling in the glass confirmed it. Drank from a red wine glass.
Nose was booze through and through. Like an overly strong rum and coke with added hints of coffee.
As soon as it hits the palate, booze, booze and more booze. However you can pick apart the two types of alcohol; rum and the beer. Undertones of roasted grains, coffee (dark espresso to be more precise). The spices are completely masked by the booze.
This beer was a little softer on the palate and smoother after it warmed up a bit. I know people are down on this beer, but frankly it was not as big a let down for me as for others. It clearly needs to be laid down from 10+ years, however the possible contamination recommends against it. I enjoyed this beer for what it was; too young.
