750 ml wax-dipped bottle poured into a Bruery tulip.
A - Ruby highlights make their way through the rich mahogany colored beer giving the cloudy concoction a nice hue beneath the stable khaki cap of foam.
S - Tannic grape skin introduces tawny port straight into the nostrils with little hesitation, gently transitioning to a malty old ale aroma that smells like its been cellared for quite some time. Toffee slivers cut through caramel sweetness, paving the way for warming alcohol on the finish.
T - Complex maltiness continues to develop as the beer warms, bringing dark stone fruit flavors to the surface through the toffee and caramel sweetness. The beer's smooth maltiness makes for a wonderful body to be aged in port barrels. The inherent dark fruit tones blend beautifully with the barrel's unique oak notes and tannic grape overtones make for a completely unique experience.
M - Robust maltiness gives the beer a big body but the grape skin tannins from the port barrel aging cut the sweetness with a touch of tartness and, of course, at just over 15% ABV, the warming alcohol finish dries out the palate nicely.
O - I wouldn't necessarily call myself a Port connoisseur but I definitely do love me a good snifter of the dessert wine, and a nicely aged old ale is wonderful as well. The Bruery's Sucré aged in tawny port barrels almost perfectly blends the two, maintaining the integrity of both beverages while marrying them with pure class. A brilliant barrel-aged beer to be sure.
