So this was the big beer we opened last night for the Super Bowl. I think Shawn blacked out for the 3rd quarter. Dude kept saying "dude is that Hill's (Tyreek) first catch? . . . everytime he had a catch. "Uh no, he now has 9 catches for 105 yards."

Anyways, pours a brown color with some of those dark red auburn and ruby notes on the edge. Thin head, lighter brown 1/5". Aroma didn't push much in the way of raw oak, but it had a nice bourbon toffee and brown sugar feel to it.

Taste kept much the same way, while the oak portion wasn't super discernable, it didn't do anything in the negative and the rest of the beer just banged away awesomely as usual. Mild sweetness really did a number on making this drink pretty effortlessly, even though it didn't form much in the way of a head, it excelled at being that delicious low key carbonation and silky mouth feel. Hints at nutty and vanilla as it warmed, bourbon present and chill AF hanging out the whole time. This was my favorite bottle since OG Fruet. They're all pretty similar and super reliable, I don't like to drop $30 on a bottle of beer, but this won't leave you disappointed.

750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 3/21/2014. Pours crystal clear dark ruby red/brown color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with awesome retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, peach, pear, date, cherry, apricot, red apple, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, charred oak, nuts, and toasted brown bread; with light notes of oaken vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, pepper, leather, tobacco, smoke, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Slight booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and charred oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge raisin, plum, fig, peach, pear, date, cherry, apricot, red apple, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, charred oak, nuts, and toasted brown bread; with light notes of oaken vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, pepper, leather, tobacco, smoke, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/char bitterness, oak tannin spiciness, and yeast tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark fruit, cherry, peach, apricot, red apple, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, charred oak, nuts, toasted brown bread, oaken vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, pepper, leather, tobacco, smoke, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and charred oak barrel flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness and charred oak spiciness balance; with no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering char bitterness and oak spiciness. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mildly increasing warmth, with zero booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing barrel aged old ale! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and charred oak barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/tannic/char/drying finish. This was very distinctly different from all other barrel variations I've had. Not as syrupy/dark on malts, a bit lighter on dark fruitiness. Might have just used a fresh batch, and none of the solera. Super clean and perfectly balanced rich malts, fruity yeast, and fresh charred barrel complexity all around. A highly amazing offering, and perfect style example as usual.

750ml into snifter. Bottle dated 3/21/14.

A: Murky ruddy brown with a couple fingers of dense tan head that faded into a long lasting cap of bubbly foam. Sticky wispy lace.
S: Raisin nose, rich oak, tons of mellow oxidization, mild chocolate, and hints of leather and sticky brown sugar.
T: Like licking a piece of wood. Musty basement, carmel, cardboard, raisin, tons of leather and tobacco leaf, tons of oak and raw wood flavor. Sticky sweet finish, coco powder, earth, and leafy intense bitterness.
M: Thick body, sticky sweet and potent mouthfeel, solid punch of intense flavors and strong bitterness. Alcohol is hidden extremely well.
O: Potent and intense but definitely over the top oak mixed with a ton of oxidization and strong bitterness.

A: Poured into a giant snifter to a deep brown beer topped by a dense two finger light tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of dark fruits with notes of plum and raisin with some nice oak and caramel
T: Taste is somewhat woody up front before the dark fruits come in full force with that plum and raisin, caramel sweetness is there as well along with the oak which brings a hint of spice and wood. Swallow is more oaky notes, caramel, raisin, and plum with some lingering sweetness and hints of spice.
M: This beer is pretty thick on the palate with a somewhat silky feel. Carbonation is there and adequate for the style while the ABV gives this one a drying finish.
O: Overall this is a really well executed beer. The Oak is less in your face than previous iterations that they did with new oak. This allows the complexity of the beer to really shine which makes it a great drink. Not as good as the wine barrel iterations but still very good.

The beer that continually builds on itself now takes a big long slumber in fresh American oak barrels for a spicy, nutty and wood filled taste. The Sucre's underlying oxidation, sweetness, savoriness and richness is a perfect match for the often times stubborn tannins of new oak.

But New American Oak Barrel Aged Sucre stands up gracefully to the oak with a tawny bronzen garnet hue and a low lying foam stance that renders the beer looking the part more of madeira than of ale. Its scent is rife with toffee, maple, molasses, honey and sorghum with the umami savory sweet interplay of sherry and port that's drool inducing with its mere scent and is lavishly sweet and savory as the fine elixir greets the tongue.

As the flavor unfold on the middle palate, its lavish complexity shows a relaxing sweetness while the fruits of plum, blackberry, currant, grape, date and fig round into a soft balance of vinous tartness, light peppery spice, faint peatiness of scotch whisky and a hint of soy. The spiciness of oak lays an acute astringency on the finish with a hint of sawdust and almond awaiting.

Full bodied, but the oaken spices dry the palate with the same effects of aged madeira. The beer's incredible transition from malty sweetness to semi-dryness with nuanced fruit, leather and tobacco puts the complexity of this ale on the same playing field of the finest sherries and tawny port wines.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a clearish brown hue with a thin head.

S - Aromas of nice chocolate and nice oak freshness. Nice sweetness.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, nice caramel malts, very good . Subtle and sweet. Nice oak.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, creamy, alcohol hidden well.

O - Overall this was a very solid beer, nice sweeter light whiskey, good sweetness.

Light fluffy head again, little lacing long legs, same color

Nose big sweety brown sugar, super fresh oak, raw oak, caramel vanilla, base malt but lighter.

Taste big fresh oak, raw woody oak, almost cedar, little vanilla, rich caramel, mild malt, little bitterness this time, little booze, fruit is very little.
