Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Summer seasonal, Trade Winds Tripel is a Belgian-style Golden Ale with a Southeast Asian twist. Instead of using candi sugar (typical for such a beer), we use rice in the mash to lighten the body and increase the gravity, and spice with Thai Basil. The result is an aromatic, digestible and complex beer made for a lazy summer evening.

750 ml bottle was poured into a snifter.

Appearance: A two finger billowy head was poured that reduced to a puffy layer. It is a hazy pale yellow with some clarity and vision of tiny bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Vanilla, pilsner malts, pale malts, apple, pear, powdery yeast, esters, slight alcohol.

Taste: You get all the typical flavors you would expect from a tripel. The basil has mellowed out a bit, but this is very enjoyable with the little bit of time, I can notice. Rice does lighten things up and add some sweetness to the beer too.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, light to medium bodied, chewy, a little dry, some booze, and medium to high carbonation.

Overall: Pretty nice American take on a traditional Belgian style of beer. Stands up with a lot of them. Not summer here in Boston, but definitely summer in the Southern Hemisphere where this would be enjoyed at the current moment.

Appearance: Opaque golden straw, with good retention and nice lacing.

Nose: Green grapes, green apples, grass, banana and tropical smoothie with peaches.

Taste: Apricots, bananas, lemon, mango, and lots of peach. Very nicely balanced.

Notes: Very interesting! This is an excellent departure from your normal Belgian.
