2013 Vintage

A- Pours a burgandy color that settles into the glass as a very dark burgandy. Large foamy and frothy head that lingers around and leaves a lot of lacing.

S- Sour funk, roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruits, toasted oak, sweet hint of vanilla.

T- Lots of funky sour coming through with dark tart fruits, sweet cherries, oaky vanilla, hints of chocolate. The sour comes through way more than the Black Tuesday, but the split is pretty nice.

M- Medium carbonation, with the high sour carbonation balancing out the smooth imperial stout. Actually very sipable.

O- A very nice beer. The sour and the big imperial stout play off of each other nicely. I would be interested to see this one as more of a 50/50 blend, but it is very nice as is.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 750 mL bottle into a Tampa Bay Brewing Company snifter.

A: Deep brown with garnet highlights around the rim. Basically opaque except around the edges. Forms a thin tan head that fades fairly quickly, and low visible carbonation.

S: Bourbon and oak, vinous, tart cherries and some acetic character, roasted malts with some chocolate notes.

T: Follows the nose well - tart cherry, acetic, restrained bourbon flavor, oak tannins, roasted malts, and a touch of chocolate. Finishes tart with lingering vinegar acidity.

M: Lighter body than the appearance suggested, but not at all watery. Carbonation sensation on the low side. Alcohol flavors are obvious, but certainly not overly hot.

O: Very tasty. The sour flavors from the Oude Tart dominate the Black Tuesday character, but it's a nice blend. Significantly easier to drink than I thought it might be. Recommended.

This most likely is a variation of an oude tart. This one, however, has a strength that oude tart does not have. It makes it somewhat heady but very enjoyable. At the same time, this could be a regular ale, with a bit of a sour hit. Even though the flavors are different, they complement each other very well.
