Our spring saison is light blonde in color with a fresh hoppiness and a wild and rustic Brettanomyces character. Lighter in color and alcohol than our Saison Rue, yet equally complex in its own way.
The wild yeast in Saison de Lente will continue to dry it out over time, giving a slightly more mature character to vintage bottles. Perfect for warmer weather picnics and spring celebrations.

750 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. The glass fills completely with a huge white head, while a pale golden and slightly hazy beer only slowly appears. Rustic aroma with notes of farmhouse (brettanomyces) and oxidised apples, also spicy notes (coriander, cloves). Moderate carbonation in the mouth. The flavour is distinctly hoppy and moderately spicy throughout, with a bitter finish. Easy drinking for its strength.

Lightly sparkling gold with a very large, active but airy foam settling to a lumpy, very airy blanket leaving sporadic fuzz circles on glass.
Smell is lemon rind and a bit of horse blanket with grass, hay and barnyard. Fainter hints of white grape and stinky cheese are also present. However, but all of the above are very light.
Taste is lightly tart apple and slightly tangy of wild greens with a slightly sharp and bitter bite of brett that finishes with a bready exhale.
The light body has a slowly filling carbonation, and swallows dry.
2013 vintage (!)

750 mL bottle dated 12/17/13.
Deep gold/light amber color with a large white head. Big, sticky patches of lacing on the glass as this one went down.
This 3+ year old bottle hit with a big dose of rustic funk in the aroma, after which some floral and light citrus could be noted.
Tart and musty flavor. The Brett has probably had a little too long to run wild in the bottle and oxidation has begun to take its toll. Not bad, but I'm guessing very different from what it tasted like in its early life.
Bone dry in the finish. Easy to drink. A little too old, this probably hit its sweet spot around the 1-2 year mark. Still a tasty offering. Thanks to Muz for the bottle.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a nice hazy golden yellow to dim orange color with a two finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a good thirty seconds. There was barely any lacing anywhere on the glass. The smell had a nice sweet refreshing lemon, slightly grassy and leading into a slight dry earthy citrus. The taste was sweet and dry, a nice bitterness invades finely upon the surface of my tongue. There’s a nice bittersweet hoppy grapefruit aftertaste leading into a nice dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was good for the saison style and for me. Overall, I like this one alot and would definitely have again.

A fitting welcome to spring that I hope to have again.
Hazy gold Looks helped by a huge head. Smells have citrus fruit and pine needles with a tad of Brett. That tart takes over in the Tastes, but the sweet malt does leave lightly. Finish is too dry and bitter and Bretty for me to have with many different foods; but a variety of appetizers will do.
Roger Probst selected Saison De Lente as among the "300 More Beers To Try Before You Die !" and has a good line worth repeating to sum up the ale and its dry finish "You can't keep a good Brett down."
I hope Patrick Rue's leadership in Belgian-inspired brewing keeps today's Brett-fad from getting extreme.

Had that vibrant yellow haze like a German hefe, even more obscurity haze I'd venture to guess. Aroma was super floral.
Taste hit with some clean yeast phenols bringing lemon and light dry beechwood like grist. Lots of carbonation on this one. Clean drinking. Grassy, floral. Definitely hits those spring notes. Older bottles develop more earthiness. Maybe a smidge of pepper to it.

Poured on from a 750ml bottle into a straight sided Collins glass.
Look is a hazy yellow orange with a thick frothy head.
Lots of funky wet blanket hay aroma.
Taste is grassy and light. Very dry thin. Excellent Easter drinker.

From notes over 2 years old:
Pours a hazy deep gold producing 3+ fingers of active but lasting, finely bubbled, creamy, off-white head that recedes into a moderate cap of long lasting foam that leaves blotchy webs of lace. Aroma is musty Brett, spice, lemon zest & sweet fruitiness of apple, peach & pear. Taste is a balance of sweetness & Brett yeast mustiness, apple, pear, white grape, spice & bitterness. This brew is sweet but tangy with a nice dry bitterness that intensifies from the finish into the aftertaste & lingers long. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, lively carbonation & dry. The first bottle I experienced & rated was over 2 years old. Thanks to Eric at 5 points bottle shop Athens, Georgia. Very nice.
