Another one from an amazing tasting.

A Pours a nice black color topped with a mocha head.

S Very sweet with a ton of chocolate. Almost reminiscent of chocolate syrup. A bit of alcohol comes through as well.

T The taste follows the nose with a very sweet milk chocolate flavor coming through. This is followed by a kick of alcohol.

M mediumish mouthfeel with a noticeable alcoholic burn.

Overall this is a great beer but due to the sweetness and the massive abv I wouldn't want more then a glass of it though. Perfect beer to share at a tasting.

750ml waxed bottle into a snifter - 2011 Vintage

A: Pours a dark brown (not as black as I expected) with a small off-brown head that fades to a ring and leaves no lacing.

S: The nose is rich and decadent. There are huge notes of vanilla, chocolate, molasses, and bourbon. The booze comes out big time after it warms.

T: The taste is about the same as the nose with huge flavors of chocolate, bourbon, char, vanilla, molasses, and fudge.

M: The feel is on the fuller side of medium with a long oily finish. Booze is very apparent as it warms. It went flat about halfway through my glass which was kinda disappointing.

O: I thought this would be an all 5 beer but it didn't quite live up to that...it's still damn good. The nose and taste are almost identical to GI BCS which makes it hard to justify $30 for a 750ml when BCS is around $22 a 4pack.

Thanks to fatmcb1 for opening this bottle on NYE. Reviewed from notes.

A: Black, emphasis on silky, brown slivered trim. No practical head.

S: Smells sturdy enough but much less robust than anything I had imagined. Sweetness, bourbon barrel warmed cocoa and milk chocolate are foremost. It really does have a wonderful smell despite being lesser than I preconceived and makes me wish I could bath in it.

T: Definitely a let down for the price, hype, and what I imagined. This beer is definitely not comparable to any other beer but this fresh 2011 bottle is all about sweetness and has a VERY mild barrel presence. Something must be said about the fact that this 18% beer literally tastes and drinks like a 7% beer- obviously very impressive and intriguing.

M: Thin! WTF! It's silky as balls, but come on, rouse me a little, I can take it. You don't have to fuck me this gently.

O: I didn't put this on much of a pedestal, but I can think of literally dozens of other bourbon barrel aged imperial stouts that are better than this (and all cheaper).

Pours motor oil black with a thin mocha tan head that dissipates quickly leaving a flimsy thin layer head throughout. High alcohol heat and bourbon aroma are detected along with some burnt caramel and licorice, oak, vanilla, molasses which is exactly what the flavor suggests as well. As the session continues, the special-release brew offers a smooth and silky finish. Sticky medium-body with soft carbonation. A very nice and memorable high ABV Russian Imperial Stout. This was the first big beer of 2012 for me and glad I started the new year with a bang!
