750mL bottle from Hop City (Atlanta, GA). 7.99. Bottled 9/24/12. Served in a Terrapin snifter.
Pours dark but transparent brown with about a half finger off white head. Only a few small spots of lace.
Not much happening in the nose. Some rye, a slight sour note, and some bready malt.
Taste has a bold rye character with spice, raisin, malts, dough and a little dose of alcohol (though not near what you'd expect in an 8% brew). More complex than I am describing but only the rye really stands out.
Medium light body with moderate carbonation. The feel gets creamier as it warms. Spiced rye finish.
Nothing spectacular but this is ok. It drinks very smooth for 8%. Almost like a brown ale but more rue than I think I've noticed in any other beer.
