First impression = what the heck is this beer. Research on the site and it's just under "rye beer". Ok, that helps.
All kidding aside, a very tasty brew. The smell is of straight roasted barley, must be what adds the brown color to the beer, which pours with little head. But the second smell reveals a nice fruitiness to complement the rich malty aromas.
The taste matches the smell, with a nice blend of fruit, tart, and malty flavors. It has a light, dry body that leaves you thirsty, but for water, as it comes off a little astringent.
Overall a very unique brew with loads of flavor. Great for one glass at a bar.
Edit: read some other reviews and feel that toasted bread is probably a better description of the nose than roasted barley. My sense of smell is off.
