Russet brown body with dark reddish hues. It has a delicate off white head and shows nice visible carbonation.
The smell is fantastic. It is fruity, chocolatey, toffee, tobacco, cocoa, raisin bread, apricot, plum, and pudding. It's a huge swirl of malts, hops, and yeast.
Interesting interplay between the dark chocolatey malts and the fruitiness imparted by the rye. The rye literally lifts the entire beer off your tongue and gives you a bit of a sour/funky fruit taste that pairs with the maltiness of the beer. It doesn't let the malt weigh it down, but rather lightens it. It's interesting. It's a bit boozy on the second taste.
Mouthfeel is heavy then light, then heavy again, I can't decide.
This is a definite sipper. I wouldn't be surprised if this one aged very very well. It's extremely complex and unique and I will most likely recommend this to friends.
