Poured and tasted 7/20/11
750 mL bottle poured into a Sierra Nevada snifter
Pours a light gold body with a bubbly, carbonated white head and a constant stream of uprising bubbles. Head took awhile to dissipate, doesn't leave much lacing.
Aroma is fruity esters, some citrus hops, mild phenols, and a lot of belgian yeast.
Taste is pears, pineapple, phenols, and spices with a slight hop bitterness presence (mainly citrus - maybe amarillo) and a crisp, dry finish. Doesn't feel like it's 8.5% ABV on the taste.
Mouthfeel is light, slightly carbonated, and fairly thin.
An enjoyable Belgian Golden/Strong Pale Ale. I think it could stand to shave off 1-2% ABV to make it a little easier to drink. Unique mix of attributes makes it memorable but not outstanding. Paid $9 for the 750 mL and have had it on tap for $5/12 oz.
