10 oz. on-tap at Beachwood BBQ, the special 3rd Anniversary beer, a blend of Coton, White Oak Sap and an unknown as of now, smoked beer,
A: Pours a dark garnet brown with a very nice soft white head with excellent head retention throughout the glass.
S: Classic Bruery barrel aged nose, I don't know how they do it. Massive vanilla and sweet malt mixed with a Scotch/Islay smoke component. Very fragrant.
T: The beer really gets into the smoked ale with a huge amount of peat. Just when the smoked beer is going to take over, White Oak Sap comes in and sweetens it all up, the mid-palate really reminds me of Firestone 11 a bit, which is always great in a beer. Delicious notes of wood, molasses, vanilla and other barrel-aged goodness intertwined throughout. Stellar.
M: Smooth, creamy, only a slight ethanol play, but to hide it this well is an accomplishment, but maybe I'm expecting too much in this arena after Melange No. 3.
D: This is another fantastic barrel aged strong ale from The Bruery, I continue to look forward to these special releases since they always turn out wonderful. Overall for me this blend is even better than Melange No. 3, and that is saying something. Just so balanced. A beer that demands your attention, and you'll be pissed you went through your glass so quickly.
