Presentation: 750 mL bottle from the 2012 release. Poured into a Kate the Great tulip glass and served chilled. Allowed to warm over the course of an hour or so.
Appearance: Medium brown in color with some nice reddish highlights. Pours a one finger, light brown head with very little retenetion. Turns into a nice lacing around the edge.
Aroma: Cherry, oak and vanilla notes all stand out. Sour, but with a nice fruity background. A touch of alcohol but it is hidden well.
Taste: Tart cherry, green apple, and some nice smokiness. Really interesting combination. Really nice balance of cherry with oak, vanilla and toasted character. Nicely balanced and very drinkable. Smoother the more it warms and the farther I get into the bottle.
Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy in body. Nice, light carbonation helps keep it feel lighter.
Overall, a really nice take on a darker sour/flemish red. The sour cherry character mixes well with the toasted malt character and the vanilla from the barrels. Really balanced and tasty throughout. Not sure if it is worth the price tag, but certainly tasty.
