Pours a dark golden orange/apricot color with a 1.5 finger white head that settles into a lasting ring.  Streaks of soapy lacing left behind.

Slightly earthy aroma with lots of sweet malt notes, bready yeast and subtle funk.  Hints of toffee, caramel, biscuit and light fruit.  Not as hoppy as expected.

Medium bodied with a dry, resinous hop presence that lingers over sweeter notes into a dry finish.
More hops than nose suggests. Subtle creamy texture with some faint citrus that gives off some sweetness to balance the  malt presence.  Hints of caramel, toffee and bready yeast but hops are still prominent.  . Decent amount of dry bitterness but still well balanced with above average drinkability.

On tap at the source.

Pours a murky amber/red hue with a bubbly head that has great lacing and retention.

The nose is full of oak, citrus rind, tangy cedar, and subtle vanilla.

Taste is earthy with spicey oak/cedar notes. Citrus fruit rind and grapefruit pulp as well. Tons of wood, earth, spice, and citrus.

Mouthfeel is on the high end of medium bodied, well carbonated, and spicey.

Simultaneously delicious and interesting.

The Loakal Red is one of my favorite brews from The Bruery. The great color is an inviting sight, and the aroma that goes along with it really prepare you for the first flavorful sip. The head was impressive, and stuck around for a while. The first smell was typical of a red amber, and the second yielded a wood grain scent. The first sip was very flavorful, and the wood grain scent stuck around for the taste as well, giving a smoked grain aftertaste. Definitely a smooth taste that lasted for the rest of the glass.

Poured into a a FFF pint glass from a 750ml bottle.

A - Pours a nice dark amber almost light brown color with a nice thick and frothy 2 inch head. The head is a slight ecru/off-white color with some extremely creamy and dense bubbles. The head last forever with some nice sticky lacing. (4.0)

S - Delicious slightly resiny hops with some mild Centennial citrusness. That is then mostly enveloped by some nice sweet slight caramel malts. Awesome balance of caramel sweetness and resin filled grassy hops. Very nice nose. Pretty typical of a Amber Ale but with really well crafted. (4.0)

T & M - Starts off with some nice caramel sweetness followed by some grassy, almost hemp like hops. Very similar to the nose. There is definitely some nice woody oak characters in the background of the malt and hop notes. There is some nice slight caramel mixed in with some citrus and hop resin. SLightly piney. The wood adds different more earthy dimension to this brew and style. There is also a pretty nice malt and fresh bread backbone. Mouthfeel is light and refreshing but with a lot of flavor. Pretty solid offering. (4.0) (4.0)

O - Overall I really enjoy Red Ales with this much flavor. I feel like CA does a good job producing ales of this type. See Hop Head Red by Green Flash. Very flavorful and well crafted. Delicious. (4.0)
