A: Pours a dark brown with a big airy and frothy light brown head. Fades slowly, leaving only minimal lacing behind.
S: Loads of brown sugar and caramel. Get some overripe, almost tart dark fruits; some raisin, dates and even some apples. Little bit of spice in there too.
T: Sweet burnt sugar, caramel and brown sugar up front with just a hint of toffee. Turns fruity in the middle with the dark fruits mentioned above, primarily raisin with just a touch of that tart apple. Finishes with some cloves and a little earthiness and spices. Touch drying with some decent oak in the lingering aftertaste. Little bit of sting in the aftertaste, perhaps from the higher ABV.
M: Slick, smooth and fairly heavy. Carbonation helps keep it from being too thick.
O: Not a bad BSDA. Very malty, sweet and fruity. Oak is surprisingly strong for being only 25% barrel aged. Not overpowering, just a nice element of complexity in the finish. Tasty and balanced.
