Notes/Commercial Description:
Oude Tart is our Flemish-style sour red ale that has won back to back World Beer Cup Gold medals in that category, as well as a Great American Beer Festival gold medal for the same. This is that same beer, but now with cherries to compliment the flavors of dark fruit, leather and toasty oak that the original is so well known for. While this beer will certainly age fine, we think that fruited beers are best fresh as the fruit character can dissipate with time.

Thank you, Abraham.

A mildly hazy dark brown with reddish highlights, there's a short lived brown head that falls off to a wispy ring rather quickly. The nose is really nice. This isn't a subtle beer (neither is the base beer) - dark, brooding, leathery malts with a little sweetness, oak tannins, red wine, a faint touch of vinegar and a burst of sour cherries are all present. As it warms up, it gains a floral note, along with rose hips, a little bit of hibiscus and some dark fruit, all of which work quite nicely with the red wine base. Impressive.

As nice as the nose is, the palate really shines. Plenty sour with a blend of moderate red wine vinegar and plenty of sour cherries, bursting, fresh and unabashedly flavorful. Leathery, tannic and with a touch of tobacco, the contrast here is really nice. Tannic red wine, especially on the mid-palate, is present. Sour on the finish with a fleshy, fruity, juicy sour cherry flavor dominating, there's also a touch of meat, a flavor I've found in more than one oud bruin (I'm not making this up, I swear. Medium light in body, moderately carbonated, this beer feels good on the palate. Both the base beer and the fruited version are intense, but this particular batch manages to channel the intensity in ways that make this really work. Recommended.

On Tap

The Bruery RS Initiation Party 2012

A dark brown and cherry red with glowing red edges. Thin half-inch light tan head atop. Pretty.

A powerfully aromatic sour. There's plenty of sweet fruit aromas, particularly cherries and grapes, along with a mellow woody aroma. Very tart nose.

A delicious sour with lots of cherry and wood character. Balanced, sweet, tangy, woody, spicy, then more sweetness. Delicious.

Medium body, lip puckering, no alcohol presence.

An absolutely fantastic sour. Great beer!

Amazing appearance, looks straight up like supplication with even more redness and grittyness to i, lacking much if any head to it. Great aroma, super sour, oak and vanilla.

Taste, fantastic. Puckering sourness, cherry really comes out in this one. Lots of the cherry sweetness, but the sour to back it up and not make the sweetness bothersome. Great job with the brett, never fades, intense, not the type of wild ale you should probably introduce one too (gf made the keith stone bitter beer face when I gave it to her, thereby making me smile).

Will definitely be looking for this one again and again at Bruery events.

Appearance - Dark brown with reddish hues. head quickly dissipates and leaves no lacing at all

Smell - I am getting ready to pucker up as this one just smells tart. Oak and fruit in the end of this beer after the funk leaves

Taste - Goes hand in hand with the smell as this one is quicker a pucker you lips kind of beer. As it warms up the cherries come out a bit more. I get a little oaky flavor as well.

Mouthfeel - Not overly carbonated, but very smooth as it leaves your mouth

Overall - Really glad I got this one in a trade. Wow was it a great flemish
