Notes/Commercial Description:
Oude Tart is our Flemish-style sour red ale that has won back to back World Beer Cup Gold medals in that category, as well as a Great American Beer Festival gold medal for the same. This is that same beer, but now with cherries to compliment the flavors of dark fruit, leather and toasty oak that the original is so well known for. While this beer will certainly age fine, we think that fruited beers are best fresh as the fruit character can dissipate with time.

2013 Vintage bottle. Pours a VERY dark reddish-brown color...almost like a deep mahogany. Medium, light-tan head. Scent is heavy on the cherries up front. Tart, dark-red, overly ripe cherries with a good amount of oak and vinegar. Sweet cherries as well with a hint of vanilla and more wood. Some funky notes with a lot of sour aromas. As this beer warms, the cherry comes through fantastically. Taste is initially sweet cherry deliciousness, switches quickly to puckering sour. Light vanilla and heavy oak flavors. A bit of red wine vinegar. Puckering. Mouthfeel is full bodied, lip smacking, and puckering. Drinkability is very high. Overall, this beer is fantastic. I enjoy it a bit more than the regular Oude Tart. The cherries shine through very nicely. Glad I stocked up on this one!

750mL bottle poured into a snifter.

(A)- Pours a deep murky mahogany brown color. Some decent tan colored froth and lacing.

(S)- Huge aromas of tart cherries and slightly funky oak. Very cherry pie-like, only with the deep funk.

(T)- Again, very cherry pie-like. Big jammy cherries meets the funky oak. Great sour acidity.

(M)- A great carbonation level and balance. The cherries really bring on extra dimension to the base with that extra jammy sweetness.

(O)- I am already a big fan of the base beer, but the addition of cherries really adds an extra layer of complexity and dimension making this something really special.

Appearance - Dark brown with reddish hues. head quickly dissipates and leaves no lacing at all

Smell - I am getting ready to pucker up as this one just smells tart. Oak and fruit in the end of this beer after the funk leaves

Taste - Goes hand in hand with the smell as this one is quicker a pucker you lips kind of beer. As it warms up the cherries come out a bit more. I get a little oaky flavor as well.

Mouthfeel - Not overly carbonated, but very smooth as it leaves your mouth

Overall - Really glad I got this one in a trade. Wow was it a great flemish
