From a bottle pour at the source, on to the beer:

It looks like dark cola in color with a short lived head. Instead of lacing sticking to the glass it is legs. No dissapoinment in the nose, the bourbon barrel brings out chocolate covered raisins, a second helping of more raisins, oxidation, and unsweetened chocolate. A complex tasting beer, albeit a little boozy. The bourbon barrel effect brings a massive blanket of the spirit with raisins and oxidation. Underneath that, you can find powdery, dry baker's chocolate and toasted pecan. In addition, there's also toasted coconut coming out of nowhere. It's a big bodied beer that coats your palate with a sweet, semi-sticky texture.

2 Turtle Doves for the bourbon drinker? I would say that this is a little bit better than virgin 2 Turtle Doves. Certainly more complex, though a little less approachable from the sheer force of the barrel aging.

Dark, cloudy brown with very minimal carbonation. There's a small ring of small bubbles clinging to the top of the liquid, but this isn't particularly bubbly. Leaves the glass slightly oily and spotted with stick. Unsurprising and pretty enough for the style considering it spent time in the barrel.

Incredible, rich, inviting aroma. Integrated bourbon (oak and vanilla), dark breads, decadent chocolate, and even just a hint of coffee fruit cake. Very nice.

The flavor is similar to the aroma, with the bourbon barrel leading the way, along with caramels, candy bar, and just the slightest hint of alcohol burn. Delightfully complex, yet marvelously drinkable.

Full in body with low carbonation. Oily, decadent, and rich.

Fantastic. Perhaps the beer of the day.

Black and dark brown pour, almost no head to it, which is pretty customary for such a kind of beer. Aroma was pleasant, soft bourbon touch envelopes the spice of the base beer, followed by some cocao and vanilla.

Wow, what a nice taste, makes 13% just melt away on your tongue. Bourbon heat just is so tame. Keeps down the dark fruit and spice characteristic from the base beer, just a nice bourbon sipper this way. Some brown sugar and vanilla compliment the bourbon. Really chills out some of the astringency of the base beer. Actually, pretty much every flavor that was 'not for me' in the regular 2td is downplayed here in favor of better stuff.

Quite possibly the biggest improvement of any beer I can think of when placed in a bourbon barrel.

BA review #1200, although I'm in the 2600s on the other site. On tap at the Phoenix Club Bruery event. More -bals from one of the best -ballers out there, and it was actually listed as "Bal-aged 2 Turtle Doves," which was quite the site for sore eyes after a 40 minute line wait. Fun times.

Very dark brown with a lasting tan head and good lacing.

Awesome aroma, big roast, molasses, toffee, dark fruit, pecans, oak, and chocolate.

Flavor is also very righteous and complex. Roasted malt, brown sugar, toffee, dark fruits (plun, raisin), nuts, -bal, and vanilla, with non-negligible booze.

Big heavy boozy palate with low carbonation and some booziness

A damn good -bal aged beer overall. One of the highlights of this event, especially seeing "bal-aged" in the name. Great job, Patrick. Maybe you can actually name a beer something like "3 French Hens -Bal Aged." That would be REALLY awesome.

Served from tap into a Bruery sampler imperial pint at the Reserve Society Party. Poured a deep dark brown with a minimal light tan head. There was no lacing evident throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, chocolate, and wood. The flavor was of sweet malt, chocolate, cream, wood, and alcohol. It had a heavy feel on the palate with low carbonation. Overall impression... Jesus this was good! Had an excellently balanced flavor of sweetness, earthy, and boozy notes. The barrels definitely made this brew quite excellent. I hope it holds up for the people doing the vertical/horizontal/diagonal (whatever we decided to call it) tasting.

(Bottle courtesy of Sparky!!). This was a major want for me. Thanks Eric!! Pours hazy chocolate color with tan head. Aroma has sweet bourbon and vanilla. Taste follows suit except for a little sourish note. Mellow. Full bodied with oily texture. Really happy to try this.

thrilled to finally be able to open this one up, i figured what the hell and just went ahead and cracked it!

Poured a very nice and deep dark hazy mahogany colored brown with a big full head that stood at least three fingers high of tan colored lace.

The aroma was full of spice, from the first whiff I was picking up nutmeg, figs and hints of oak. A very nice bourbon like aroma with hints of vanilla and touches of almost leatherl. very full aroma as it warmed some other dark fruits, perhap cherries or plums started to emerge and really become prominant. A nice grainy and earthy back was at the foreground the whole time as was a nice mellow caramel like sweetness that let everything just blend together.
Very well put together and alot more mellow then I thought it would be, the year in the cellar really did this one justice. The first flavors I noticed were a very nice presence of figs or prunes that really helped to push forward the spices that were laying underneath. As it warmed I really started to pick up the wood flavors, very well done and nothing overbearing here at all. The alcohol was there but had mellowed quite a bit leaving behind a slight bourbon like warmeth but nothing that ws going to stop me now. The finish was long and drawn out with hints of earthy grains and a touch of fruit.

Very nice medium bodied ale that was really put together quite well. The carbonation had held up very well really giving it that full creamy feel. Seductively smooth this was the ideal balance of carbonation and smooth feel. Very nicely done.

I found this to be a very nice sipper. The alcohol in it was quite mellowed and the flavors went really with each other creating a very nice balance here.

A superb barrel aged beer this combined the best of what they can do. I would gladly by another one day. Really a nice selection here that I would have to recommend.

On tap at The Bruery. Murky dark brown with a thin crust of a head. Carbonation is fairly low.

This smells overwhelmingly of chocolate, caramel and vanilla at first. As it opens up a strong nuttiness appears, along with a trace of toasted grain. The mix of chocolate, nuts and caramel is wonderfully decadent. Some alcohol is evident, but it's subtle.

Layers of chocolate and caramel hit the tongue first. Rich and sweet, typical of a bourbon barrel aged beer from The Bruery, and expectedly delicious. Nuttiness is also prevalent, along with vanilla and toast. The barrel doesn't overwhelm the subtleties of Two Turtle Doves, but I no longer get the mild bitterness and astringency that the base beer had when it was fresh; barrel aging has turned this into a more sweet and refined beverage.

The Bruery has a great track record with these big malty barrel aged beers, and this one doesn't disappoint. I think I like this even more than Barrel Aged Partridge.

Shared with my roomate Niko on Christmas. Been in my cellar for over a year.

A- A very deep brownish black, it is opaque and quite dark. A thick syrupy pour, with a tannish head that retreats to a ring of foam around the top of the glass.

S- Smells very sweet, toffee and and brown sugar. Dark fruit, plums, and dark malt. There is definitely still heat from the barrel on the nose.

T- Smooth and sweet. A touch of oak and peat, bourbon, and brown sugar. The bourbon is very pleasant, and really adds to the base beer. Reminds me of BB4D, but a little more sweetness and depth.

M- Pretty good in both carbonation and body. The sweetness is a little intense after a while, but it's a great sipper.

O- Overall very very nice. My only complaint really would be that it is very sweet. Despite that, it manages to retain pretty decent drinkability, and depth.

Pours a a dark brown color with some copper hues along the edges. There is a nice inch or so of bubbly tan foam on top that recedes quite rapidly and leaves some spotty lacing.

Aromas begin with lots of vanilla, oak barrel, milk chocolate and light bourbon. A nice light nuttiness emerges as it warms.

The tastes begin with milk chocolate, toffee and dark caramel maltiness. Sweet notes from the bourbon, nuttiness and vanilla are abundant in the background. Quite rich and delicious; so good it makes you smile after each sip.

The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with low to medium carbonation. Light sweetness and slight bourbon dryness in the finish. The base beer was quite sweet when I first had it and the barrel aging help to dry it out and balance.

Overall I enjoyed the original 2 Turtle Doves the most of the first four variations offered and this Barrel-aged version is also a huge winner for me. The barrel-aging really takes this one to a new level. Typically I do not enjoy Belgian beers aged on spirit Barrels for whatever reason but this breaks the mold for sure. Definitely recommended and worth seeking out if you have the inventory to pull it off. Top 10 beer I have ever had.

Dark brown with mahogany highlights, very small khaki head.

Decadently rich malt married with bourbon in the aroma. Maple syrup and molasses. Artisanal dark chocolate and acidic cherries.

This is like drinking liquid Mast Brothers chocolate. An intense dark chocolate flavor and bitterness, dark fruit (caramelized plums, glazed raisins, etc) with an acidic cherry finish. Lots of sweet malt, not cloying. Rich Maple syrup and vanilla sweetness. The bourbon has some trouble competing with everything in here. This is a big beer and much better than the non-barreled version. It hits on all the necessary sensors for a BA stout but isn't overwhelming on your palate.

Opened to celebrate San Francisco not getting hit by a tsunami.

A-Pours deep brown, almost black with a thin ring of mocha bubbles.

S-Bourbon goodness. Vanilla, toasted pecans, bourbon. Dried shredded coconut. Bourbon.

T/M-Really intense. A burst of overwhelming bourbon oak right up front, followed up by a vinous tartness, and finishing in another intense burst of coconut, honey roasted nuts and bourbon. Full bodied and roasty, with low carbonation and a warming finish on the back of the throat.

D-Two Turtle Doves has been my favorite release from The Bruery so far, and this version actually manages to improve on the original. Wish I had a few more of these,as this beer could go another five to seven years.

Huge thanks to Amyliz4 for opening this one up next to a bottle of the regular version. Served in a Bruery tulip. Pours a moderately-dark brown with a nice tan head. Spots of lacing. The nose carries really excellent bourbon notes. So smooth, and well integrated with the base beer. Nice dark fruits and moderate sweetness in the background. Still a touch of caramelized character. Flavor isn’t quite as nicely done, but the bourbon and base still meld well. Medium body; quite smooth. Very tasty.

Picked up my allocation at Bruery Provisions yesterday and cracking this open on Christmas night.

A: Pours cola brown with tan white head. Plenty of carbonation showing.
S: Lots of barrel on the nose, but it integrates nicely with the base beer. Caramel, brown sugar, chocolate, spices, and dark fruits galore.
T: Sweet brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, a nutty quality, figs, plums, and a slight tannic quality and fruit bitterness as this finishes. Almost like that tart bite you get from plum skin.
M: On the thick side, as I expect from a Bruery barrel-aged beer, with medium carbonation, slightly sticky from all that sugar.
D: Overall, this is a nice beer with which to celebrate Christmas, but one or two glasses is plenty. This should be sold in smaller bottles.

On-tap at the Bruery -bal tasting

A: The pour is a dark brown color with a thin ring of tan foam forming around the edge of the glass.

S: Like Barrel Aged Partridge and Barrel Aged Autumn Maple before it, the bourbon just dominates the beer. Lots of vanilla, bourbon, and chocolate (likely due to oxidation).

T: Slightly boozy, but a really enjoyable bourbon flavor. Sweet vanilla, caramel, maple syrup, and chocolate make up the rest of the flavor. Quite rich.

M: The body is medium with a low to medium carbonation and a smooth, creamy mouthfeel.

D: I haven't been a huge fan of the regular versions of the Bruery's Christmas beers, but the barrel aging really changes them. Certainly the flavor profile is "controlled" by the spirit flavor, but I find it quite enjoyable.

Saw on the website today that they would be having this so had to come down for a night of fun at the Bruery. Super glad I did!!! Brought the brother in law from DC with me. He was quite happy I did.

App- It poured a very dark brown when held to the light. A very small head developed but was not inclined to stay for very long. The lacing was non existant as well.

Smell- When I reviewed the regular 2TD it had some choc. chip cookies and some with a touch of caramel. Now, its gone. The bourbon barrel has added a big boozy smell with the darker fruits.

Taste- The mouth follows the nose as the figs, cherries and bourbon come through on the taste. I think a bit more time in the bottle to settle the flavors would have been good, but seeing as I missed the PIAPT BB. I am very happy to have tried this one. The flavors are very large but don't overcome what you are drinking though. I think was better than the normal 2TD.

Mouth- On this one I was pleasantly suprised at the lighter feel to it. I felt it was lighter than the standard 2TD and the bourbon really added to the aftertaste.

Drink- It was a very well done beer. I think trying something new with the base they had was pretty feasable. The dessert factor was still there of having a pecan pie. I still say having a side to pair with is the way to go with the 12 days series.

Pours a solid dark brown with the faintest of garnet highlights when held to light an impish off white head dissipates almost instantly. Smells of bourbon, wood, and vanilla with a solid shot of ethanol. Chocolate and brown sugar coated raisins and nuts round out the nose. The flavor is sweet up front with a hit of grape an raisins before the onslaught of barrel moves onto my palette. Bourbon vanilla earthy wood and vodka burn their way through my gullet eventually settling into a dark fruity sweet sugary finish that lingers long after every sip. Medium to thick body with a sweet oily coating mouthfeel and a light level of carbonation. There's a lot going on here and most if it is great. I did find the alcohol to be a bit harsh but that didn't stop me from sipping on this celebratory bad boy all night.

Been waiting to pop this for awhile. Shared at our big NYC tasting this past Saturday.

Brownish body; light ring of tan head remains on the surface. But this beer is far too good to spend time discussing the nuances of its appearance.

Fruity, malty nose blends perfectly with the most "rounded" bourbon aroma I've ever smelled. Smooth, warm, and hearty; not sure how else to express its roundness. I generally dislike brews with a strongly pronounced bourbon character, but this is perfectly layered atop the base brew. Again, very rounded.

First impression from the taste is that Belgian-style beers shouldn't taste this good. The concept of aging a BSDA in bourbon barrels still makes me cringe, yet Patrick & the Bruery crew somehow managed to craft a world-class brew from it.

Similar to the nose, the bourbon character is silky smooth and very rounded. It blends magnificently with the fruity, dark caramely, brown sugary base. Decadent and well-refined. Hearty booze character soothes my throat as it descends.

Despite the crazy hype surrounding PVW-aged beers like BCS Rare, I truly believe the bourbon character present in BA2TD is superior. This is a must-try for bourbon lovers. Hell, I love this beer and I don't particularly like bourbon! BA2TD is one of the best examples of barrel aging in today's beer landscape.

A: Pours a dark brown color with a thin light brown head that reduced into a collar.
S: Notes of sweet malt, brown sugar, light chocolate and raisins. There is a whiff of bourbon as well but it's not actually that overpowering.
T: Follows the nose with big notes of raisins, sweet malt, honey, caramel and light milk chocolate. There is a hint of oak and bourbon to the finish, but it's really toned down.
M: Full bodied with a touch of warm alcohol. Carbonation is low and kind of fizzy.
D: Goes down really easy and is of the same quality as all Bruery's other delicious brews.

At The Bruery.

Pour is black as night with a small ring of bubblessround the outside of the glass. Smells of caramel, roasted malt and dark fruit. Boozy. Taste follows. Sweet dark fruit, big caramel notes and huge booze. It's smooth booze, however, not hot or burning. Finish is sweet lingering booze. It warms you up as you drink it. This would be great on a cold winter night. Feel is thick and viscous. Low carbonation is right for the style. Glad I got to try this.

Enjoyed on tap at the Reserve Society initiation party and poured into my tiny tasting glass.

The color's a creamy, hazy, cloudy mahogany topped with a frothy head the color of ginger about a finger tall. It recedes quickly, becoming a donut-like ring, with just a hint of black in the middle.

Subtle sweetness in the nose: vanilla, toffee, maple, caramel and a light roasted character. Incredible.

The taste is similarly great: toffee, cocoa, roasty malts, toasted marshmallow. There's a lot going on here, but there's also a light touch on all the flavors, which adds to the complexity.

In the mouth, the beer feels lightly carbonated, with a smooth medium-full body amidst some hefty alcohol.

Having never tried the un-barrel-aged version of this beer, it's hard for me to pass full judgment on this one, but I'll give it a shot -- I liked it. Lots. Great chocolate and toffee flavors, and the barrel-aging adds complexity without overpowering the beer's other attributes. This was one of my favorites of the day.

A: Appears deep brown with a mahogany tinge, in the snifter. The one inch head is a darker shade of tan, with good retention and a little lacing. A vigorous swirl leaves a cascading string of pearls in its aftermath.

S: The nose is decadent, a showcase of the Bruery's signature bourbon barrel aroma. Big brown sugar and vanilla notes meld with cocoa, caramel, and a faint toasted nut influence. There's a touch of plum. Booze lingers in the background.

T: The beer is sweeter than the aroma suggested. It's very sweet, but quite delicious. Booze is very well hidden by layers of chocolate, brown sugar, and caramel. Vanilla is present, and the nuttiness is more pronounced in the flavor. There's a notable plum character that goes quite nicely with all the chocolate and vanilla. The beer is sweet, as I've surely mentioned, but it manages to dry out a bit in the end as lightly toasted oak becomes more pronounced. Booze is well masked.

M: The beer is on the lower side of full bodied, with upper low - lower moderate carbonation. The mouthfeel is silky and sticky. Alcohol makes up for its lack of influence on the flavor by providing ample warming.

Overall: Another delicious barrel aged beer from The Bruery. Drinkability is high in small quantities, but the beer is quite sweet and this makes it a bit of a sipper, though it can be quaffed if you're so inclined. I've quaffed many a glass of Barrel Aged Two Turtle Doves at the Bruery's 2 hour beer parties. Right now, I choose to sip it, but if an inexhaustible supply were at hand you'd find me drinking at a much faster pace. If you didn't enjoy the likes of Black Tuesday, Barrel Aged Coton, or Mélange #3, you won't like this. If you liked those, you will like this very much.

Pours a rich brown with a low but fairly thick creamy head which fades to some nice swirls. The smell on this is intoxicating. Tons of smooth bourbon, chocolate, cocoa, decadent figs, caramel and burnt brown sugar.

The taste (when cold) follows and is really smooth. Chocolate undertones shine through a bit more with a buttery diacetyl end, which is borderline almost too buttery. There’s a very slight cherry, dark fruit end that becomes more prevalent as the beer warms to room temperature. It’s not overpowering but I have a feeling that it could take over the beer down the road. Will have to see on the next bottle. Carbonation is ample and helps to tone down the heavy alcohol.

Overall one of the better BA versions of the Bruery Holiday verticals.

Poured into my Darkness snifter.

This is a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting to see this opened up at our last tasting. Pours a dep dark reddish brown. Some off white head. I get lots of bourbon on the nose. Vanilla and chocolate with some bits of dark fruit round out the smell profile. Bourbon is pretty heavy in my mouth from this small pour. It mutes some of the stuff I smelled. Some oak comes through with the vanilla, chocolate and dark fruit. Really hard to get around that bourbon for me.
