Bottle shared by ottovon, poured into a tulip.
Dark burgundy, pretty clear and tinged with cherry redness at the edges. A beautiful, dense, one-inch head of khaki foam becomes a thin, pancake batter-dense top layer with thick dalmation spots of lace.
Deep, sweet aroma. Lightly toasted dark bread, nicely caramelized, brown sugar, orange. Some citrusy hops, but it’s lost the brightness it had just seven months ago.
In the flavor: toasty biscuits, orange peel, caramel. Bitterness is moderate, lingering on the tongue with grapefruit peel. Pretty big smack of ethanol, but the sugar emerges as the beer warms to hide it. Smoothly deep in flavor, and I love the pronounced toastiness of the malt.
Silky, pillowy body is just one notch under medium. Gentle bubbles. There’s more alcohol in the flavor than the feel, but it;s still fairly well-hidden for 9 percent ABV.
When I had Old Richland on tap at the Reserve Society party, this beer was a bitch slap of hops. I like it much more now. Better malt flavor, better blend.

A : Poured a hazy amber color with a dirty white cap. It sports some good head retention and good lacing
S: Big pine hop presence, Christmas trees with a hint of citrus and and brown sugar
T: Big pine start to finish, perhaps juniper, definitely hop forward with a caramel/toffee base. This beer has some moderate heat, moderate bitterness and dry on the finish with a lingering caramel/pine presence. This beer honestly reminded me of vintage Doggie Claws.
M : Medium bodied, medium-high on carbonation, dry, warm, a little sweet but still very hop forward and its packed full of faded hops which gives it a chewy feel
O: Not bad.
