Big thanks to Sean for this... A semi clear light brown, light tope head... The nose is acidic vinegar, a hint of cherries, pretty complex... The taste is boring, vinegar, tart cherries, very oaky finish... Not bad, the 9% is hidden really well. I need to have the Marron to compare.

Bottle from the brewery.
I've been sitting on this one for a little while and since company came over I thought this would be the perfect beer to shock some people! I guess the first shocker was the self pouring bottle. She opens with a huge hiss and foams violently for a few seconds until the pressures equalize. Pours a slightly cloudy reddish brown color with a huge bubbly tan head that piles it high but recedes almost instantly. Initially I got lots of banana and tropical fruit but that seemed to quickly give way to more of a lemon and tart cherry thing on the nose. Earthy funk with a touch of yeastiness and wood round out the nose. The flavor still holds a bit of sweet brown sugary malt which is a bit surprising! The funky earthiness is more prevalent in the flavor and mixes well with the dates which add a bit of sweetness. Light tart tropical fruit with just a touch of wood and alcohol round everything out. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet tart lightly tongue pricking mouthfeel. Hugely interesting beer, that most of my guests couldn't stomach. A little sweet for a sour, but I really enjoyed this beer.

Didn't think I would ever get to try this, but thanks to rudzud for it.

Pours a light fizzy head that fades almost instantly. Dark murky caramel ruby maroon color.

Nose brings nice blend of sour malts and caramel candy malts, nice toffee and caramel, candy, etc, with great sour tart fruits and souring bacteria, with a nice tart guava and guava extract, and plenty of candied dates, nice buttery vanilla oak, oak is so buttery.

Taste brings sweet and sour, big on both. Are nice barleywine like malt profile, with caramel candy malts and little whisky like barrel note, lots of buttery and vanilla oak rounding. Some sour malt notes, and into tart fruit, nice sour like guava note with big guava juice, into a candied date again, nice dark fruit. Back end gets a bit of a meh sour porter note, and acidic sour vinous note. Finish is sticky syrupy and flemmy, more candied dates and guava paste, bit some bitter tannins as well, little oak barrel and dark sour malts.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, syrupy but sour and acidic, flemmy, hint of booze.

Overall really interesting nice sour, great guava and date fruits, nice sour malts and candy malt flavours, and nice barrel rounding, but that tannic somewhat unpleasant finish takes it down a notch.

Received a long time ago in a trade, shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice crystal clear mahogany hue with some
thin head that fades to leave a light halo.

S - Aromas of guava and dates. Nice amount of oak solid barrel, buttery oak, light vanilla, almost vinous quality. Very nice. Candied dates, super pleasant.

T - Taste is loads of guava, shockingly loads of guava, sweet sugar dates, caramel, toffee, oak, slightly medicinal sweetness. Finish is quite tart with light vinous notes. Loads of oak tannins that for me distract me.

M - Mouthfeel is very nicely carbonated with the alcohol hidden well.

O - Overall this was a bit of a confusing beer. I like the aroma, and the taste, but the super tannic finish just hinders this beers potential.
