Poured into my SN tulip. It poured a deep dark brown with a fizzy white head the quickly disappeared. Smelled of dark fruits and vinegar notes. Tasted of figs, dates, raisins and other dark fruits. The oak flavors were not as prevalent as I’d hoped but came through late nonetheless. Well carbonated for the style. I’m not a huge sour fan but this was one of the better ones I’ve had. (390 characters)

I had this at a tasting hosted by finewinemike. Thank you so much to Arenbeer for bringing this bottle. I never thought I would get to try this one. Poured from a bottle into a Chimay goblet.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy reddish dark amber color. There is a layer of off white head and decent retention.

Smell: Fruity with sweet malt and mild vinegar notes. Acidic and mildly sweet.

Taste: Super tart and a bit fruity. There are some woody notes as well as fruit. The malt balances out the sourness very well. The finish is a bit spicy and sour.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with very tingly carbonation and a finish that is a bit spicy.

Overall: The barrel did good things to this beer. I thought this was a real treat to get to try. (731 characters)

Hazy light brown. Sedimenty. Lacing on the rim.

Sour and sweet. Cherry, caramel, grape peel.

Complex. Cherries, raisin, maple, brown sugar, light vanilla. Sweet dark fruits basically with the element of mid sour levels.

Sticky sweet finish. Light.

Pretty much copying my Marron Acidifie review here because the beers are so damn similar. Dark reddish-brown topped by a thin head. Carbonation is low and the body is cloudy and opaque. Tart raspberry/blackberry aroma, very vinous, reminiscent of red wine vinegar. Hay-like funk, reserved acetic sourness with a little brown malt beneath. Guava has a faint presence on the nose, lending a tropical fruit undertone that's pleasant. I can't say that the dates come through much at all. Sharply sour on the tongue, exhibiting a nice balance of acetic and lactic sourness with a lean toward the acetic side. Blackberry fruitiness, subtle guava, integrated oak and some nice vinous dryness in the finish. Very enjoyable, but it's not particularly different than Marron; the fruit adds a very mild layer of flavor. (850 characters)

A - Murky copper colored beer with a litle bit of reddish on the sides. Bit of a beige head, some spots left on the sides.

S - Smells a lot like Marron Acidifie but it's not as potent. Some vanilla, dark fruit, a bit of tartness. Nothing real special here.

T - Actually a bit disappointed. I liked Marron Acidifie more, but supposedly they are close to the same beer. Might be because I had that one on tap. Some dark fruit, maybe some guava, little bit of sourness. The flavor is very mild and falls kind of flat.

M - Medium bodied, lower carbonation, could have used some more to liven it up.

O - Just not blown away by this beer. Not tart enough, flavors not distinctive enough, just kind of muddled together and lacking in carbonation. (743 characters)

Thanks to GregSVT for sharing this bottle at the Flying Saucer Beer Tasting.

The beer pours a hazy orange color with a white head. The aroma is full of dark fruit, with a lot of cherries, cranberries and blackberries. I also get a nice dose of brown sugar and some light tartness.

The flavor is also very nice. I get a lot of tart cherries and other dark fruit, as well as some nice oaked notes. I get a little bit of toffee as well as some light sweetness and brown sugar notes. The sweet and sour components go very well together.

The mouthfeel is relatively thin and the carbonation is pretty low. A very nice sour beer. (629 characters)

Appearance: Slightly murky ruby-brown with a small off-white head:

Smell: Muddled dark fruits, I mostly get dates and raisins

Taste: Again, this particular offering is a bit muddled for me. I get mosty dates and raisins, the guava is not wowing me. Medium tartness with a touch of oak. Would be nice if it had a bit more funk

Mouthfeel: medium to full, carbonation is slightly low

Overall: I found the flavors to be a bit messy, with some fine-tuning and focus on the guava it could be very tasty I suppose. (511 characters)

The beer is slightly hazy and appears orange to red in color. The aroma offers a strong lactic and acetic presence with some mildly sweet fruit. Smells like a fruity Flanders ale. The flavor is sour and funky, with some lingering notes of cherries. Moderate carbonation with a funky acetic finish. The feel is a bit rough. A good beer, but not great, I would have this again. (417 characters)

Ar: Nice sour, flemish red type sour profile, raspberry, strong tropical fruit, some darker fruit, winy

Ap: Relatively ghastly, mild coarse white head, fair retention, about the color of cooked rhubarb

T: Acetic acid warmth, fruity, tropical fruit, medium sweetness which the acidity helps balance, light saltiness, somewhat of a cascade beer profile but i like this more, mango/papaya, excellent, fruit, very mild alcohol, strawberry, strong dark dried fruit end (dates), ends abruptly, no raspberry in taste, tangy, leathery, strong winy character, difficult to describe

M: Low carbonation, warming acidity, mildly salty, prickly acid and carbonation, medium body, mild alcohol warmth, rough finish

O: Good, want more funk and less acetic acid, good fruit, pleasant and more complex than many other flemish oriented sours i can think of (dissident, rodenbach), makes sense as an imperial oud bruin, had high expectations that weren't met but it is good. (1,048 characters)

Pours a translucent russet, no real head - just a fizz that fades. The smell is wood, fruit, stone, oak. Taste is heavy on the wood, cider vinegar, minerals, faintly fruity. It's a little too oily and very fizzy; thin. Doesn't quite come together, though it drinks well enough. (277 characters)

(A)- Pours a cloudy tawny brown color. Some tan froth does show up.

(S)- A nice dry oaky profile up front. Bits of tart fruit and funk.

(T)- Similar to the smell, though it definitely has a sweeter; riper fruit note. Heavier on the oak too with a nice sour profile.

(M)- A nice carbonation level and balance. Heavy oak, but a good fruit and tart characters. Superb ABV integration; I would not of guessed it was that high.

(D)- A nice beer. An interesting blend compared to Marron. It was really interesting to have each side by side to compare. This one is definitely fruitier, and sweeter, though I think I still like Marron better overall. (725 characters)

Poured into my bruery tulip. Pours a hazy amber brown with decent carbonation and a paper thin head. Aroma is of oak, tropica fruits and red wine. Taste follows the nose, sweet and sour tastes, acidic but not too much, the oak is there but not in your face. I tried this at the 100 bottle release from ccb and the fruit was more present then. This has aged into a sweeter marron acidife Which isn't a bad thing by any means just different from the fresh. Mouth feel is smooth despite the pucker and acidity. Overall this is one amazing sour that I am glad I kept for myself. I would be the first in line if this was ever released again. (636 characters)

HUGE thanks to Bay01 for bringing this to GBM!

(A) Deep ruby color. Semi clear throughout. No shifting of hues at the edges. Really no head on it at all.

(S) Fruit and vinegar greet the nose. Some berries and cherry and a hint of orange are wrapped in the tart sourness. Reminded me of Marron Acifidifie a bit.

(T) The fruit greets you big up front. The guava comes through and followed by the berries and cherry that you are aware of. This beer had a bit of funk to offset the sourness and round out the taste. Some vinegar present. Slight booziness and not overly sweet.

(M) It's got a great medium body and the hit is sour but not overwhelming. Carbonation is present in the mouthfeel but not the appearance.

(O) This was a lot like Marron but had that extra little 'something'. Very good and glad I had the chance to try it. (833 characters)

A slight gusher upon opening the bottle, but we didn't lose too much. Pours a murky plum color with a fizzy white head that quickly disappears. Still leaves some light lacing though, surprisingly. Not the prettiest looking beer.

Guava, cherry, acetic acid and oak barrel rise up from the glass. The nose is fairly similar to Marron Acidifie. Maybe a little funkier and sharper with the acidity. Light funky cheese notes.

The taste is much like the nose. Cherry, guava and oak. Nice fruitiness with some good barrel presence. Slightly more acidic than Marron Acidifie from what I remember.

Mouthfeel is fairly smooth and slick, but still has good carbonation. Some warming alcohol comes through on the finish. Good level of acidity.

Overall, this is a pretty solid American Wild/Flanders ale. A bit more fruity than Marron Acidifie, but I actually find a Marron Acidifie a bit more drinkable and possibly a better beer overall. However, this one is plenty tasty and worth trying if you get the chance. Hopefully we'll see a few more collaboration brews from Cigar City and the Bruery. Quality stuff. (1,142 characters)

750 mL bottle shared by a friend. Pours murky deep orange-brown with a tan head. Nose smells of of malt, balsamic vinegar, cranberry, leather, guava, funk, and some earthy fruit (maybe the dates?). Flavor is similar with the oud bruin coming through and a definite guava presence, with funk and vinegar lingering on the periphery. Medium to full-bodied and enjoyable. Well-hidden booze for a 9% sour. (400 characters)

Poured into a tulip glass from a 750ml bottle.

A - Pours a murky slightly mahogany color brew with a thin off-white/ecru head. There are some slight amber colors on teh edges.

S - Tartness mixed in with some nice dark fruits, dates and prunes as well as some nice sweet caramel. There is some nice fruit sweetness that I can take as the guava. Aroma is delicious. Near perfection with enough spice and funk as well. Some cinnamon is picked up as well as some vanilla and woody hints.

T & M - Flavor starts off clean. There is some nice tartness mixed in with the dates and the slight caramel. The tartness is funky and yeasty with some slight vinegar notes but they are not too intense. THe woody notes are pretty refreshing and clean with some nice oak and slight cinnamon burn. The guava and fruit juice sweetness is more hidden in the flavor and intermingles with the tartness and the woody notes. The beers flavors is delicious especially as it warms the caramel really starts to evolve along with the darker fruit notes and the tartness also starts to get a bit more intense. Not too bad though. Mouthfeel is medium with a clean flavor and a nice clean crisp finish.

O - I think I enjoy this versions better than the Marron. Even though both are good. This is a delicious sour. (1,286 characters)

dark brown, very hazy and cloudy with a rich tan colored head. Excellent retention left behind thick coating side glass lace.

The first notes to come across were funky and sour, which were to be expected, however, letting this one warm up brought about all sorts of goodness. This one had to warm though to really let you appreciate all of the subtleties that were going on here. Rich notes of caramel and tart cherries, light notes of oak and woodsy like malts. Extremely complex here. The flavor was much more of the same, just absolutely decadent and delicious. This was honestly one of the best flavors I have ever experienced in a beer, and I really mean that. It was tremendously good. Started out a nice rush of Brett funkiness in all of its glory, rich notes of fruit, cherries layered in on top of that with an almost toffee like flavor as the base. This was very reminiscent of a funky KRE in its complexity. A rich cascade of semi sweet flavor then rolled through and tool over as it always does. I have to admit it needed a little bit more punch in the carbonation though it was still very well done. (1,113 characters)

Bottle from my RS shipment, tried alongside Marron Acidifie last night.

A moderately clear mahogany with a dense, light brown head, this is an attractive beer. The nose is very similar to Marron, but a little different. While this is also a blend of leather, red wine, a little vinegar and moderate fruit, the balance is a little more vinous. As it warms up, some guava becomes apparent, and there is a moderate bourbon character as well. A touch of cocoa rounds out the nose.

The palate opens with a blend of fruity red wine, vinegar, some dark fruit with dates and a little cocoa. Moderate leather, brown sugar and a little dark caramel are also present. Along with the dates, there's a little guava as well as some cherry-like fruitiness. Moderately oaky with moderate tannins, this beer does also have a bigger bourbon character. Medium in body with moderate carbonation, this beer dries out a little bit on the finish. Solid stuff, I like this just a little bit more than the MA, but not enough to give it significantly higher scores (1,040 characters)

Big thanks to Bobby8405 for the share. The brew pours a murky reddish hue and is capped with a fair amount of off-white froth. This brew is exceedingly similar to Marrón Acidifié. The nose is heavy on red wine, tannic and oaky notes. There is a bit of acetic character and dry-tart fruits like cranberry, green apple and currant are suggested. The flavor is right in line with the nose, full with notes of tropical-exotic fruit, red wine and balsamic vinegar, and it offers a buttery burnt caramel maltiness to back up the tart fruity character. The feel is very silky, softly carbonated, and has a creamy texture. Overall, a very nice brew, but not any better than the base beer. (682 characters)

A: Pours a murky, muddy brown was a touch of soapy lacing left from a thin, light brown head.
S: Definitely fruity smelling with notes of guava and a touch of harsh alcohol.
T: Guava fruitiness, not very sweet, with darker flavors of caramel and dark malt. I get some funk and little bit of tart fruitiness as well, but it’s pretty tame.
M: Full bodied, low carbonation with a low tartness and a drying finish that isn’t as bad as a desert.
O: Strange and unique and definitely not what I was expecting. It could use a bit more bite. (595 characters)

A: The pour is quite hazy and dark reddish-brown in color with a finger or two of off-white head.

S: Like with Marron Acidifie, the acetic character is rather in check. Plenty of red fruits and particularly lots of red wine aroma. Nice oak and a touch of leather and chocolate. The fruits don't come through too much, but there is a bit of the guava.

T: A light caramel sweetness to it with just a hint of dates and plums. Red wine, red wine vinegar, and some tart guava. A nice oakiness to it and a little bit of tannins, maybe some leathery funk.

M: Medium in body with a medium carbonation.

O: Not sure if I liked this or Marron better. Very good either way. (728 characters)

Thanks to Sean for opening this. Served in a Portsmouth tulip. After drinking this I discovered I could nearly copy my entire Marrón Acidifié with minimal alterations.

A - Served with a finger of tan foam that settles to a thick collar and partial cap. Lightly hazed reddish body and a few splotches of lace as well.

S - Red wine vinegar, oak, vanilla, leather, light tobacco, some nice funk and acetobacter. As it warms some guava acidity creeps in.

T - The taste is a bit sweeter - some brown malt character and vanilla. Some nice pucker, very tart, pleasant sour cherry and other nebulous fruits, and mild acetobacter. Alcohol is very well-hidden. Perhaps a bit more dark fruit character from the dates, and a more present oak than I remembered from Marrón Acidifié. It's different, but I'm not convinced it's a big enough improvement to warrant the jump up to 4.5.

M - Nice carbonation zest, dry moisture-destroying tartness. Medium-full body, with some tannic oak in the finish and light residual stickiness. Alcohol is very well-hidden.

D - This is a good beer, but not terribly different from Marrón Acidifié. I'm glad I have bottles of each so that I can do an A/B comparison, as I'm guessing the differences may be more pronounced if I try them side-by-side. Impressive collaboration beer that is stronger than the sours made individually by these two breweries - hope they hook up again. (1,409 characters)

Big thanks to Sean for this... A semi clear light brown, light tope head... The nose is acidic vinegar, a hint of cherries, pretty complex... The taste is boring, vinegar, tart cherries, very oaky finish... Not bad, the 9% is hidden really well. I need to have the Marron to compare. (283 characters)

A - Pours a ruby red, slightly fizzy cream-colored head, very slight thin ring, and some bubbles here and there on top. Not much carbonation in this one.

S - Dark fruits, oak, sour/tart notes, Cabernet. Very pleasant and enjoyable, much like Marrón Acidifié. I can't really pick out the Guava, but I could definitely smell the dates.

T - Again, very Marrón Acidifié-ish. Dark fruits, sour/tart, oak, cherries, and leather. Oak/red wine tart finish.

M - Light, low carbonation, dry tart finish.

O - I really enjoyed this one, but it's a lot harder to obtain and similar to Marrón Acidifié, IMO. That said, it's delicious and I'd def have it again, if offered up. Give it a whirl. (755 characters)

Served at The Bruery Annaversary party. Poured into small 5oz taster glass. About 2.5oz sampled. Yes I was rincing my glass too. Reviewed from notes

Pours a dark amber color. Thin head dissapated fast to a ring. Little lacing.

Aroma has lots of funk and tartness at first. Some cherries and a bit of figs and caramel malt. Smells great.

Taste is tart and funky. Could use a bit more tartness so if you have a bottle maybe save it for a bit before you drink. Don't know if I completely like the dark fruits added to this version.

Mouthfeel is dry with a slight bitter finish. High carb.

Tasty but not worth the hype IMO. Yeah it's rare and kinda tasty but not worth what you would have to give up for a bottle because each reserve society member only got one. (763 characters)
