On tap at the source
A: poured a translucent golden yellow with pale yellow highlights and had a half finger of frothy head leaving some good lacing sticking to the glass.
S: some fruit pops out on thr aroma consisting of apples, citrus tangerine, and pears alongside some spices. The belgian yeast chracter was definitely there but also had some bubblegum notes.
T: the belgian yeast flavors blended nice with the spice notes but had apple, pear, and tangerine citrus accents. It did have some grainy character though.
M: the brew was medium in body with a good amount of prickly carbonation which had a sweet, spice, yeasty, and mild fruity finish.
D: it was drinking really well and thought this variation was the tastiest out of the 5.

1175th Review on BA
Draft to Bruery Tulip
@The Bruery
App- A soft golden color with some yellows thrown in. A huge 3 finger of white foam puck falls leaving a huge soapy looking stick. Very clear in the glass.
Smell- This version was very different aromatically from the base version. The smallness was gone and was replaced with a small sour lemon and white pepper note on the nostrils.
Taste- I enjoyed this very. It was very clean and crisp. Noted like a wheaty sour lemon flavor. Had more vibrance and flavor than the base version.
Mouth- A medium body and a medium carbonation. Again some wheaty, lemon and sour came in on this one.
Drink- A nice variant of an already good beer. I did like this one just a touch better. Would like a bottle or two for summer, if they ever did it.

A beautiful clear golden and yellow ale with an off white head. Plenty of sticky lacing down the glass. Gorgeous.
The aroma is far more biscuity and bready than both other versions of Saison de Lente, though the fruity lemon and apple characteristics push through nicely.
A relatively mild and simple saison all around; the Brett really is perhaps the key ingredient in this beer. There are certainly some nice, bright hop flavors, and biscuity, bready malts, but it's altogether a fairly plain Jane saison.
Light to medium bodied with ample carbonation. Crisp.
A fine saison, but disappointing because the original is one of my absolute favorite versions of the style.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a schooner. No obvious best before date.
A - super fluffy white head that leaves moderate lacing on the glass. The beer itself is light yellow/golden and very cloudy.
S - lots of yeast on the nose, plus a hint of banana. Reminds a little of a hefe; didn't find any citrus as I'd expect in a Saison.
T - some moderate citrus bitterness as the front end resolving into a yeasty/malty/wheat body. Some enduring bitterness gives it a bit of a nice edge.
M - very sharply carbonated and very light; good warm weather drink.
D - very drinkable; no booziness and goes down easy.
Overall a decent, but not amazing beer.

Draft service into a goblet at the Bruery tasting room in Placentia.
A: Clear, light honeyed amber color with over one finger of persistent white foam head. Thick sheeting lace remains on the glass. Numerous rays of bubbles rise energetically in the column.
S: Yeasty and bright, with minimal malt influence but possessing a rustic, lemony edge. At its coldest, the smell is weak and pepper is most assertive.
T: Begins dry, with mild tartness, clean pilsner malt, and restrained lemon citrus. Mild yeast character is present in the middle, with aromatics like freshly baked bread. The finish sees acidity taper off, while bitterness becomes moderate.
M: Thin to medium viscosity, irritating acidity lingers on the palate long after the taste of it is gone, with moderate carbonation.
D: This represents an instructive undressing of one of my favorite saisons; once the influence of Brettanomyces is peeled away, the cleanliness that remains in the qualities of this beer is remarkable. While somewhat less interesting than the standard version, it is effortlessly approachable and drinks easily. Its qualities are still recognizable to style, even without the Brett. This particular pour was lovely to look at, but left a lingering scorched feeling on the palate.

On-tap at the Bruery
A: The pour is a hazy golden straw color with a finger of white head.
S: Fairly sweet malt and bread with a bit of bread. There seems to be some corn in there too. I get a fair amount of yeast and some spice notes as well as floral hops. Pears, apples, and orange peels add some fruit character.
T: The flavor is a bit watery. There is still the same sweetness of bread and malt along with a decent amount of fruit. The spices are just as prominent as they were on the nose. There is a bit of grass and a mild hop bitterness.
M: The body is light to medium with a moderate level of carbonation.
D: It's amazing how much the Brett really adds to this beer. I'd much rather have the regular or even 100% Brett version.

On-tap at The Bruery itself,
A: Pours a lightly hazy yellow. Mild white head, average retention, goes to bubbles fairly quickly.
S: Yeasty, peppery, lemons, definite pear esters.
T: Lemon zest mostly, yeast character dominates the flavour. Hops bring notes of grass, light pine, but overall a rustic Belgo flair. Some light pear and yellow apples, the complexity isn't anywhere near as it was with the Brett.
M: Crisp, full attacking carbonation, American for sure, medium-bodied.
D: It's nice. Nothing really more to say. No Brett and all Brett don't work as well as the balance, but I was glad to try Saison de Lente like this.
