Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Cuir is our third anniversary ale. It is the same recipe as Papier, but again created using the Solera method. Each year we will continue to blend old barrels of anniversary ale with a new batch of the same beer, adding an additional layer of complexity that will grow over time as we continue to age and blend with each anniversary, creating an older average age to the ale.

Finally bought a bottle of this. After trying it, I want another one to let it sit for at least a year, probably 2.

Very dark murky orange. Smell is potent and nice. Smelled it as soon as I popped the top on the bottle. Dark fruits, raisins, figs, burnt sugar. Taste is the same, but the ABV makes itself known. Alcohol is very noticeable. Love the mouthfeel. Creamy and just slightly carbonated. I'd rank the taste and the mouthfeel at a 4.5 if the ABV wasn't so noticeable. I feel that after a year or two, the alcohol taste might mellow and makes this even more enjoyable. Very nice though. Not sure if it is worth the money, but still very nice.

Fairly muddled brown color with lots going on, some turbidity through the browness, not much in terms of head. Lovely aroma, damn, coconut is forceful more than any other beer that didn't have coconut in the name. Vanilla, oak, char, chocolate after that. Good warming sensation from the alcohol.

Taste, wow, so much better than Coton and Papier as far as hiding the heat. This is a monster beer. More and more layers of complexity are revealed with each sip. Toffee and caramel are pretty substantial. Maybe some molasses and leather as well. Really appreciate the creaminess of this one, helps hide the alcohol quite well, I kept telling myself how amazing this was at hiding the alcohol, very nice. The woody touches are right in the ideal amount.

Really exceeded my expectations with this beer. Time to start adding to my little stash of this beer.

Half finger of offwhite head, red-brown cloudy body. Swirly surface memory.

Plum on the nose, dark fruit, faintly sour grape.

Taste is sweet with some hops to balance it. Some dark fruit and powerful malt. Peach and fig? Dates. Faintly tart. Some alcohol burn, faintly. Similar to Samichlaus, but less sticky and sweet.

Smooth mouthfeel, decent for the style.

Overall a nice American strong-- paired with Fritos Flavor Twists.
Overall decent

750ml bottle into tulip.

A: A deep brown body pours a finger head of light tan. Carbonation is low and lacing is light and spotty.

S: A nice vanilla and plum aroma, with a good level of spice. a bit of a low intensity aroma for the style. Low but subtle bourbon influences.

T/M: Rich, sweet malty notes, that reflect plums and dark chocolate. Spice on the palate with a long lingering finish. Low hop bitterness. Vanilla shown from the bourbon oak, with bourbon in the background. Bourbon is blended perfectly not too much to over power, but not to light, that goes unnoticed.

O: Overall, this is a solid beer, and with age, it can only get better. I really enjoyed the bourbon influence, as some brews turn one denominational. This beer is a nice offering for the series.

On tap at the Good Life - Massapequa, NY

A - Pours light brown. No visivlbe carbonation, no lcaing. Settles fast into a snifter.

S - Scents of candied fruit, brown sugar, and toffee. A hint of booze is noted in the scent, though not overpowering.

T - This tasted to me exactly like a tawny port. Flavors of dried fruit, caramel, and nuts, give way to a reserved warmy burn of booze. It is a mellowing flavor.

M - Obviously a sipper, this is mellow and if you take your time, is very smooth. The balance makes it quite enjoyable.

O - I found this a great alternative to a cordial, or dessert wine. If treated as such it makes for a great beer.

Thanks to Sam for this one. 750ml waxed and capped bottle into a Cigar City snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a .25 finger cream colored head with poor retention. Beer is a cloudy dark brown. Lacing is spotty and stringy with moderate stick. Big, thick legs. Solid.

Nose is brown sugar, caramel, prune and plum. Syrupy with a big booze presence. Real sweet too. Decent but there's something that just doesn't seem to work here that I can't put my finger on.

Opens prune, plum and logan. Sweet syrup, brown sugar, caramel and some toffee notes in the middle. Boozy on the back end with molasses and more syrup sweetness. Finishes bourbon, leather, some oak, caramel, and brown sugar and molasses sweetness. Weird sweet fruit aftertaste. Again, decent but there's a fruit presence that doesn't work.

Medium to full bodied with moderate to low carbonation. Oily and slick in the mouth and goes down boozy and thick. Finishes accented with a lingering, aggressive finish. Average. A bit too carbonated.

I don't know if age has anything to do with it but this beer just isn't doing well. There's a weird fruit presence that asserts itself in the nose, flavor, and feel that makes the overall experience awkward. Just not for me.

Poured from a 750ml bottle to a Cigar City Snifter.

Color: Dark brown with a tan head.

Smell: Cherry, malts, alcohol (whiskey).

Taste: Same as the aroma. Cherries, malts and alcohol (whiskey).

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, slightly coarse, alcohol presence.

Overall: Great body to this brew. Taste reminded me of a wine a little bit. I enjoyed it very much. Can't wait to try it aged! Cheers.
