Ah time to visit a classic, consumed bottle 0946 around the pool back in August 2018.

Pours that very dark brown almost black but without the viscosity of a stout or porter. Firmly in the dark old ale camp. Bigger head than I recall for most of the anniversary series, 3/4" tan. The aroma hits all the usual notes from the anniversary series, often summed up as a boozy cracker jack with all that caramel, toffee, brown sugar and bourbon going on. Perhaps its the leather tag going all power of suggestion on me, but there is a hint of a leathery barrel there too.

Taste holy moly this is great stuff. 17% here tastes relatively easy going. Bourbon, vanilla, more brown sugar give a nice smoothness with only mild heat to it. Perhaps the high degree of carbonation at the outset works well, because it didn't have that mouth feel to it. Didn't really think there was much if any oxidation to it (which the high degree of carbonation at the outset would seem to corroborate). Finally, light smack of sweet tobacco leaf really seals the deal, that this is one of the greats, dunno whether I like Cuir or Fruet better, kinda tough to drink those back to back.

750ml into a snifter appears a hazy brown color with rich finger plus of darkly stained khaki cap that recedes slowly leaving spotty lace.

Aroma is burnt sugar with a distinct bourbon tang of alcohol about it. Raison, plum, prune, dates, molasses, figs...all those dark sugary things are present with slight woodiness, vanilla and caramel.

Taste is sweet bourbon goodness. Complex layerings of bourbon meets wood and slight oxidation, mustiness and earth. Vanilla, caramel, toffee and molasses are all well represented along with bourbon and slight herbal bitterness to contrast.

This is medium to fuller bodied and modestly carbonated. Not that long ago I spent a couple days drinking through the first 5 bruery anniversary beers and Cuir ranked among my least favorite. This 100% barrel version though is on the opposite end of the spectrum and might be one of my favorites in the entire anniversary lineup.

Bottle: Poured a hazy brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of residual sugar notes with some bourbon notes and deep caramelized malt is quite intense and warming. Taste is also a mix of deeply caramelized malt with some bourbon notes, some vanilla, quite a bit of residual sugar and some light warming alcohol notes. Body is full with good carbonation. A bit too sweet and cloying but still quite a nightcap style of a treat.
