A triple? Hmm ... I suppose so.

Pours a hazy light yellow with a soapy white rim around the glass.

Smell is orange-y hops, a bit of ... oak/wood?, and a barnyard, yeasty zest to it that's almost like a sweetened saison in character.

Taste is surprisingly sweet. Lots of sticky malt, sweet citrus, and a hint of yeast and spices to linger on the tongue.

Not a style I'm fond of, but I really am digging this. Good chewy mouthfeel.

Thanks to Dixonian for bringing this beer back to Texas from one of his trips to Southern California. I love Trade Winds Tripel and am really looking forward to this one.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is very nice and very hoppy for a tripel. I get a lot of apricot and resinous pine notes, with some bread and Belgian yeast notes mixed in. Definitely not your classic tripel aroma.

The flavor is also unique and very nice. I get a lot of Belgian yeast and pepper, as well as some biscuit and bread from the malt. There is also a lot of flavor from the hops. The hop notes I get are mainly orange and apricot, but there is a little pine thrown in for good measure. Another very good aspect of the flavor is a subtle oak character which compliments the other flavors very well. The alcohol is well hidden.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Hazy golden yellow and orange with a big foaming off-white, eggshell colored head. Not much lacing down the glass.

A somewhat sweet nose and a decidedly Belgian one. Lots of tang, pepper, banana notes from the yeast, along with a sweet lemon and sugar sweetness, and then some wonderful citrus hop aromatics.

More of the same in regards to flavor, though there's more bitterness than in most tripels, then of course there's rock candy sweetness, along with a nice Belgian yeast tang and spice, and some citrus as well. Comes together marvelously. No alcohol heat whatsoever.

A fantastic mouthfeel: full and rich yet light and incredibly drinkable.

A unique, delicious, and special tripel.

Review from notes. At the time, consumed blind.

A: Pours a clear golden color with a small white head, on the sudsy side. Not much retention or lacing.

S: Decent aroma, not overly exciting. Lots of Belgian yeast and spice. Some breadiness and cloves. Not as much citrus as I would have expected, doesn't come off like a typical tripel.

T: Slightly oaky, but very doughy/bready with hints of fruit. There is also a little bit of spice mixed in, but nothing overly special.

M: Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Drank rather easy.

O: Not knowing what the beer was (even though I knew it was Bruery), I probably would not have guessed Batch 300. It was ok, but a little bit too bready for my liking.

On tap at Stone Brewery Bistro and Gardens. Hoppy and a bit funky aromas. Not a triple. Hazy grapefruit coloured. Well hopped, dry finish. Somewhat complex and unique. Bit above average mouthfeel offset by some astringency, orange rind. More of a sipper.

On-tap @ Library Ale House in Santa Monica - served in a tulip.

Lightly hazy amber body with a dense creamy ivory crown. Two-tiered lacing - denser towards the lip of the glass. Excellent retention.

Acidic aromatics with a fresh burst of tangerine and kumquats along with a white wine character presumably from the oak.

Herbal hops initiate the palate, the potent (especially for the style) bitterness is married to a mineral-tinged astringency contributed by the oak. A soft delicate yeast welds the disparate elements together; finishes fairly dry with citrus and lingering alcohol.

Medium-bodied, well carbonated (though more spritzy than effervescent), with a well disguised (though I suspect, formidable) ABV.

Would make an interesting comparison to Allagash Curieux - the oak character is less specific in Batch 300 (not obviously derived from a bourbon barrel), though the hops make it distinctly domestic in origin. I'm finding CITRA continues to confound me - as the herbal quality is one I'd normally associate with a noble hop, but descriptors of CITRA vary so much that I never quite know which flavors it is responsible for contributing to the beer overall. Anyway, this is a unique "Tripel" - and after Tradewinds, I'm not surprised the Bruery contniues to experiment with this style.

A: Really nice lacing on this one. Pours a beautiful orangish-honey color with a good cloudiness.

S: All Citra hops in the aroma here. Nicely herbaceous with notes of fresh cut pine, berries, bread pudding and caramel. Well constructed sweet yet aromatic nose.

T: This beer really drinks like an imperial IPA for me, not to far off from something like Sculpin. Flavors of pine, cheese cake, strawberries, raspberries, a little honey and possibly a hint of fennel.Just a gorgeous balance of flavors on this beer.

M: Fantastic texture on this one. Very lush and full bodied mouthfeel with a little bit of creaminess. Don't get much oak, but seems like it would be very easy to over oak a style like this, so I'm happy with the subtleness.

O: Overall really a great beer. More of an IPA than a tripel in my opinion, but if you can get passed that I would recommend trying it.

Poured into my Bruery snifter. Pours a cloudy golden honey color. Nice white head and a bit of lacing.

Aroma is Citra hops at first. Then you notice the Belgian yeast smell. Slight bit of malt.

Taste is less Belgian-y than I would think. Kinda simple in taste. Bit of Belgian yeast. Clove and slight bubble gum. Then a nice hoppy flavor. Kinda citric. Bit of a bitter after taste.

Mouthfeel is dry and pretty smooth. Nice small bubble carb.

Overall an ok beer. Nothing amazing but worth a try.

Appearance: Light yellow color with some faint orange overtones. Has a fairly generous white head that slowly faded.

Smell: Pine and citrus notes from the hops are upfront like an IPA. the nose is different from traditional style Tripels.

Taste: The pine and citrus notes that were present in the nose come through in the taste. There is also a sweet orange flavor present as well. A hop bitterness also comes through in the taste.

Mouth-feel: Medium-bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation.

Overall: I liked this one. If someone were looking for a traditional Tripel this wouldn't be the beer for them, the hop presence is similar to what would be found in an IPA, and the body is heavier compared to more traditional examples. For those seeking a unique spin on a style it's worth a try.

Served from bottle into a Bell's stemmed tulip. Poured a golden yellow-orange with a one finger pure white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, citrus, orange, banana, fruit, and subtle sugar. The flavor was of sweet malt, wood, orange zest, wood, fruit, orange, and banana. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a fairly good brew. This brew was definitely a really nice twist on the typical Tripel with all of the spices added to it. This made it quite easy to drink and rather enjoyable. A definite must try if you get the chance.

Poured into a Bruery Tulip glass.

A) Nice hazy ornage appearance, fluffy head.

S) Wow strong citrus and that is before I even got it into the glass. Orange notes are really dominant here.

T) Citrus bomb, orange, grapefruit lemon zest. Little bit of a grassy finish.

M) Pucker up!

O) Interesting take on the style. Very glad i had a chance to try and wish this was a rotational offering.

(Purchased at Bruery Provisions). Pours a cloudy yellow color with a white head. Has a bit of lacing. Aroma has fruit, peaches, wheat and some grass. Taste is sweet with some peppery notes and a touch of bitterness. Medium bodied with a dry finish. A pretty nice trippel that has some elements of a saison. I like it.

Time for a smooth belgian in this tasting with aasher.

Poured into New Belgium snifter with three fingers of white foam head and streaky lacing. Color is an orange/honey/gold variety.

I smell a slight hint of citrus, honey, and banana bread. Alcohol is slightly detectable.

Taste is similar to the smell. A little bit of citrus up front with a refined not overly sweet malt on the backbone. I taste honey, coriander, and belgian yeast without that crazy fermentation aftertaste.

Carbonation, levels of sweetness and bitterness, and different taste notes make this beer fun with every sip

It takes a lot for me to give ultimate praise to a belgian and this one is no exception. Worth the purchase though because it is crisp and makes you think about the elements of it.

A: Pours a hazy yellow with a finger of white head that fades into a thin layer with a little lacing.

S: Some light spice and candy sugar notes up front followed by strong chardonnay-like aromas. Woody tanins, fermented fruits, and a slight buttery presence bring up the finish.

T: Similar to the aroma, there are some Belgian spices and candy sugar flavors at first. Chardonnay, woody tanins, and fruit follow with a slightly yeasty finish.

M: Medium body with lowish carbonation, this beer is a little thick and under-attenuated for a tripel, but it's not surprising considering the barrel aging.

O: A solid beer overall, and while the barrel aspects are nice, they overwhelm the tripel aspects a bit too much. Still, it's enjoyable.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Took a while to dig this up from a box and drink it. Beer pours a golden yellow, hazy, with half a finger of soapy bubbly white head. Head dissipates quickly to a thin collar and a patch of bubbles. Plenty of fine carbonation streaming up from the bottom of the glass.

Nose is light citrus, lemon and orange, light fruity esters that bring up green apple flavors, bread malts, a light oak flavor, and a light spice.

Taking a sip, the oak presence is much more prominent, and is the first thing hitting the tongue, along with an orange zest bitterness. Some ester flavors come through as the beer warms on the tongue, but the beer is pretty citrusy hop flavor and oak dominant where the only reason I would think it's a tripel is because of the mouthfeel.

Medium body, and creamy due to the fine carbonation. Pretty interesting beer, but I think the oak is a bit too prominent now that this bottle has seen some age.

white foamy head crowns over the top of the glass, easily coating the sides with thick globs of foam. Hazy and bright golden in color. After a few moments it settles down, but still it was a really well done example of the style.

Aroma is bright, really nicely done again here. Hints of light woody notes lay upon a touch of funk and light notes of grassy hops and grains. A touch of light fruit now coming forward as well. Light banana and clove at first gave way to a smooth and comforting sour toasted that rolled into a nice blend of earthy oak notes and hints of grassy flavor. Rich and very subtle at the same time. What actually impressed me the most was the lack of high abv in the flavor. Really well done here

Pours with a golden amber body, little bit hazy with a lasting white head.

A lot of tropical fruit on the nose. Pineapple and papaya from the hops, banana from the yeast, quite a bit of oak behind the hops. There's some sweetness that melds with the fruitiness.

Tastes pretty good, but not spectacular. A lot of fruit again, along with a ton of oak. I get a lot of mango and pineapple, a touch of banana and spice. It's medium-bodied, fairly sweet but the oak helps balance things out. Finishes fruity and semi-dry, moderately tannic. Pretty nice, I like the combination of tripel and citra hops, but I wish it were a bit more dry.

750 ml bottle sent to me by Scott (smarcoly), thanks again! Split between my girlfriend and I who are both fans of anything and everything Tripel. Poured into two Bruery tulip glasses.

A: Soft copper / golden colored body reminiscent of a rustic sunset. It starts a bit cloudy but as the beer warmed up, the clarity improved. A white billowy and sudsy head is atop that settles into a thin patchy retention ring with minor lacing.

S: Oak wood dominates the nose but it's reserved and somewhat muted in a sense. A touch of spicy yeast, hay, clove and bitter orange peel all come through once you can get past the oak notes.

T: As with the nose, the oak is evident upon first sip but again is not overpowering. It does, however, seem to be the focus of the beer which is a nice additional dimension to a standard Tripel. A touch of sweet yeast, dough and some pale malts are mid-palate. Finishing are hints of orange oils with no off lingers other than a slight woodiness.

M: Lower carbonation than most Tripels, very creamy on the palate but I feel this leads to a slightly messy body. I wish it were a bit more bubbly and prickly for a cleaner finish, like most traditional Tripels are.

Aging this beer on oak cubes is definitely something you don't really ever see for this style. There's no denying it added another dimension to the beer that, perhaps unfortunately overpowered most of the traditional Tripel qualities. Oak forward it was, but the base of the beer seems to be all but lost.

Poured from a bottle into a goblet.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy golden, light amber color with a finger of thick white head. There is a good amount of retention with some nice lacing.

Smell: There is a fruitiness that overpowers the Belgian yeast, but the herbal yeast notes show up. The beer is sweet with some alcohol in there as well.

Taste: Sweet from the malt with less of the fruit notes from the smell. There are some herbal yeast notes, with some bitter alcohol heat in the finish. I'm not a huge fan of the finish, but I enjoy the overall taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with mild and tingly carbonation and an extremely dry finish.

Overall: This beer is really close to being fantastic. The finish is a bit harsh. I wish the fruity notes from the nose were a bit stronger in the taste.

Look: Pours a orangish yellow color reminding me of apple juice. 1/4 inch head and ok retention

Smell: Citra hops upfront and hints of apple and alittle bit of a funk to it

Taste: At first you get a massive amount of the citra hops and that is followed up by traces of orange peel and apple cider

Mouthfeel: Medium body and high carbonation

Overall: This isnt to bad of a beer at all. Well done by the contest winner of this one. I couldn't continuously drink this beer but definitely could drink it a couple times a week. Its fruity and hoppy so if that is what you are into this beer is for you

This bottle was courtesy of BrewerB in a box a couple months ago. Another thank you to Brian, as this was on my wants at the time!

This beer pours a hazy tangerine orange in color, medium in body with a one finger soapy white head that laces my snifter. It smells of faded hops, oranges, slight butter, pale malt, and Belgian yeasts. Interesting concoction but nothing overly impressive. The flavor consists of faded citrusy hops, pale malts, light butter, oranges, and dandelions. After the flavor I'm convinced that the butter is due to the oak barrels noted on the label as being local chardonnay barrels. It's nothing crazy, but it's there. It drinks very smoothly and you don't get any of the 8.2% at all. Overall this is a unique tripel, but worth a try. I just wish I knew which barrels they used.

A-Pours hazy orange with about an inch of fluffy eggshell white nhead. Leaves minimal spotty lacing.

S-Citra hops, citra hops and more citra hops. Citric aroma similar to frozen orange juice concentrate. A faint hint of oak.

T/M-Citra hops are really the dominant flavor here. Very little about this beer reminds me of a tripel. There's some slick Belgian yeast mid-palate, and a bit of funk on the back end, but otherwise this drinks like a slightly peppery, citric double IPA. Almost no oak presence. The finish is warming and estery.

O-Though this may technically be a tripel, it drinks like a double IPA. Normally this would be a problem. However, it's a really good double IPA.

Pours a slightly-hazy apricot color with a medium-sized white head with a bit of light lacing. Thin collar throughout. The nose brings a bit of Citra and spice, plus quite a bit of alcohol. Alcohol is more prevalent in the flavor with some yeast spice and some slight tropical and citrus notes. Light-medium body with ample carbonation. Dry finish and alcohol warmth. Too boozy, but an interesting brew.

750 in to duvel tulip

A: a pale peach color with a white head. Dissipates shortly and leaves little lacing.

S: Sweet malt, Belgian yeast, fruit being tropical and stone fruit. Smells of Pineapple, mango, peach, coconut, and nectarine. Hints of oak.

T: Peach, mango, papaya, nectarine, pineapple, and belgian yeast. Tasty. The oak is noticeable but not that noticeable.

M: Medium mouthfeel. Very drinkable but not as drinkable as the archetype for the style.

O: Terrific beer. Second highest amount of tropical fruit flavors out of a beer I have ever had. The premiere takes the cake but this one is a close second. Premiere was bourbon aged. If this one was It would blow my mind.

A: The beer pours a slightly hazed golden orange color with a big white head.

S: Smells "Belgian" at first. Lots of banana and spices coming through. There is a nice bit of sweet bready malt and candi sugar. A fair bit of citrus and even some mild vanilla. A bit of yeast in there, too.

T: Sweet malt and candi sugar really dominate the flavor. There is some citrus to the beer, but not as much as I picked up on the aroma. Somewhat bitter, especially for a Belgian beer. Lots of different fruit notes as well as some light yeast.

M: The body is medium and the carbonation is medium to high.

O: I really liked the aroma of this beer, but the flavor didn't do as much for me. The bitterness really threw me off.
