Appearance: Pours with a transparent orange color. Half a finger of head on the pour which dissipated quickly and was not present while drinking. Medium active carbonation for the style.
Smell: Citrus notes of orange peel and coriander jump out right away. Buttery, biscuity yeast body provides a pleasant warm feeling. Oaky undertones even out the peppery spiced notes.
Taste: The oakiness of this brew is much more potent on the taste when initially hitting the palate. Lighter fruity tones of tangerines and oranges dance on the front. Heavier yeast tones take over on the second half of this brew and leave a dry texture on the palate which allows some lingering fruity tones to shine through. Oak and lingering spice character also makes itself known entire time while drinking.
Mouthfeel: Bright front which gradually fades to a darker, moderately dry finish. Carbonation was low but could be from the age of the bottle.
Overall: Included as an extra in a deal and I didn't realize that this baby had this much age on it. Carbonation was certainly pretty low but plenty of interesting flavors and aromas still present. Oakiness seems to be winning out at this point.
