Grey waxed (which for the record is hazelnut scented!) 750mL bottle acquired through the Reserve Society. Bottled 9/25/13. Served in a Burnt Hickory snifter.
Pours midnight black, chestnut at the very edges with a small pale tan cap. Wisp of a halo linger but leave no lace. As with the base beer and all it's siblings, swirling will coat the glass well and produce thick legs.
Invitingly sweet nose with string hazelnut, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and oak with a noticeable undercurrent of booze
Big, bold and delicious. The hazelnut is strong and up front with plenty of other layers. Dark chocolate, cream coffee, sweet bourbon, vanilla, oak, caramel and molasses all mixed in with a pleasant alcohol burn. A delightful sipper that can be milked for well over an hour of enjoyment.
Oily, heavy body with light carbonation so this really settles right down to make it's self at home on the tongue. Hazelnut for days in the finish but it leaves room for some sweet bourbon, vanilla and smooth chocolate.
I haven't had them back to back yet but I like this almost as much as Chocolate Rain. The hazelnuts raise the already luscious Black Tuesday to delecable new heights. I'm tempted to try cellaring a bottle for a year or two but fear that the hazelnuts that make this beer so special are already starting to fade. So drink up, this stuff is incredible!
