Filmishmish, an Arabic term for “when the apricots bloom”, is a barrel aged sour blonde ale to which apricots have been added. The beer's already fruity esters are enhanced by the hint of fresh apricot jam and wood shavings. Filmishmish is a well balanced beer, keeping the apricot and oak character present, but putting the flavor of the well formed sour ale at the forefront.

Murky yellowish-brown pour, fizzy white head. Funk and lacto sour in the aroma, sourdough. Could already tell it was gonna be an acid bomb. Upon tasting, way too acidic and sour, pretty much too much to make any fruit in there enjoyable. Toasted wheat and a metallic finish. Medium body. Not undrinkable, but I definitely wouldn't want more than a few ounces.

750 oz. bottle from Shroud0fDoom poured into a Burley Oak snifter

A: Cloudy/hazy blonde
S: Funky with some fresh medical glove on the finish.
T: Quite puckering sour. A tiny bit of apricot on the finish. The tartness is throughout.
M: Puckering. Goes down easy outside of that.
O: A sour's sour. Fruit isn't prevalent but it's there. Gives you that sour face.

750ml bottle poured into a teku

A- pours a murky golden orange color with a creamy white head that reduces to a film on top, short lasting lace left behind

S- lots of toasted oak aroma up front with aroma of fresh produce stand, apricot jam mixes with some sour vinous funk

T- oaky flavors follow the nose with notes of orange peel, faint apricot toasted oak and tangerine, dry tart finish

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a dry tart finish

O- tart and dry, apricots a bit subtle with more citrus notes

2014 Vintage

L - Pours a cloudy apricot orange body (surprise!) and a quickly dissipating one finger eggshell head. The carbonation is bubbling up still after the head has dissipated.

S - Acidic, funky, oak and with apricots backing it up. Really not much more to it than that. Simple and delivers.

T - The nose did not lie. The acidic sour blonde base is more oak forward and funky than I was expecting. I dig it. Apricots and a citrus flavor all around. I can see how the acidity can be overwhelming to some.

F - Light bodied, medium carbonation and a dry finish that leaves you wanting another sip.

O - I'm really liking this beer. The acidity can be a bit much for some and can drown out the other aspects of the beer. It just really delivers to me.
