Notes/Commercial Description:
We've all come to know and love our 40% rye malt, barrel aged sour ale, Sour in the Rye. Now it's time to enjoy that very same beer, but with fresh kumquats added to the mix. This fruited sour reveals incredible notes of both bitterness from the citrus rind as well as an unmistakable tropical sweetness from macerating the entire fruit and adding it to barrels.

Exacerbating the already present citrusy character ,the addition of the highly fragrant kumquats gives this sour rye ale an even more highly citrus boost.

Its hazy burnt orange hue precedes the fruit additions with its own visual weight and haze. As the nose draws near, the tantalizing scent of sourness locks the jaws and evokes mouthwatering response. Its first sip is strikingly sour with the same sour white grape, lime, lemon, crabapple medley as the original Sour in the Rye.

Intensifying over the middle, its sharply acidic taste strips the palate and penetrates with utmost lactic sourness. Approaching dry chardonnay and apple cider vinegar at times, the dried citrus character turns lightly musty and earthen while peppery rye and its associated huskiness lurk in the shadows of taste.

Crisp, clean and utter refreshing, the thirst-stripping sourness leaves the palate dry and only moderately earthy as subtleties of cork, cellar-like must, weathered oak, tobacco and damp soil emerge in aftertaste.
