Finally getting around to this year-old 750ml from sstorck (thanks!). Split with buddies into brandy snifters.
A: Small hiss when popped - dark opaque brown with a small amount of khaki head and some nice lace.
S: Smoke is really subdued on the nose...malt, chocolate, rye, with hints of oak and bourbon and some nice smoky wood in the background.
T: More char and campfire here, chocolate and rye malt with a slight touch of spice, toasted oak and bourbon barrel. The smoke is balanced nicely.
MF: Low carbonation in this beer; I'm not sure if its the smoke or the temperature but the body leans just thin of 'full'.
O: I drank this one cold, as I do with most smoked beers, but overall I think the smokiness was subdued in general. This beer steers clear of smoked salmon and cigarette butts, which is a good thing. Nice rye and chocolate malt presence, and just enough bourbon barrel.
