On Tap

The Bruery
Placentia, CA

Dark brown with a small dark brown cap that settles to a thin film on top of the beer which leaves spots and messy streaks of lace down the glass.

Aroma of brown bread and sweet malt along with mild roast and a definite chocolate.

Flavor is fairly typical of a standard brown ale, with bready and mildly sweet malts dominating, along with a bit of a nut character, and definite bittersweet chocolate flavors in the finish. Very nice, interesting, and decidedly unique take on a brown ale.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Very nice, flavorful, chocolatey brown ale. If I hadn't known, however, I would never have guessed there was Black Tuesday in this.

Reviewing to help get a score. Tasted three times on tap now and I must like it because I keep drinking it!

Pours a light coffee brown with some orange highlights.

Nose has some vanilla, carmel, maple syrup and undertones of bourbon whiskey. You can "feel/taste" the Black Tuesday.

Mouthfeel is medium to full which is nice for this style and with a creamy character. Mouthfeel is very inviting - you want to drink it!

Flavor profile is pretty complex with maple, light coffee, brown sugar and hints of molasses. There is a nutty and toasty undertone. All in all, very drinkable.

On tap at the Bruery

A: Pour a medium brown with a nice white head

S: Upon a swirl I pick up a browns normal suspects, Hazelnut, chocolate and a small blend of vanilla and bourbon

T: Hazelnut, malt, chocolate and a touch of bourbon

M: BT adds a more heavier mouthfeel the most Brown ales

O: This was a very solid brown ale that I enjoyed considering that browns are not really a style that im keen to.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black color with an off-white head. Nice roasted malt on the nose with some chocolate, faint vanilla, a light nuttiness, and some toast. Sweet toasted malt with a definite roastiness. Light chocolate note in the background, some nuttiness, and a hint of bitterness, banana, and vanilla.

Draft to 4oz snifter

@Bruery Provisions

App- Its a solid pour. A nice deep dark brown color with a good 1/2 finger of head to it. Good density and falls quickly. Not really a ton of lacing either.

Smell- It was okay. Kinda a thin malty brown ale note. I really got no BT in it. The warming of the beer opened I would call it a oaky, char, malt note.

Taste- It was a better than average brown ale but just didnt do anything for me. A little malty, a little charcoal flavors with a bit of a pinenut flavor IMO and none of the BT came through for me. I would think with some BT the ABV would be higher but got no bite or none of the chocolate finish as Ehammond1 suggested.

Mouth- It was a fairly standard body, even I say a bit thin. The carbonation was about the same as well. A bit thin and needed more oomph for me.

Drink- I liked it. What I wrote would suggest I didnt. Its just not as good as some other browns or even the Terrapin/Schmaltz I had at Haven after this.

I've never had Black Tuesday so I'll take this or now.

A: Pours a deep brown color. Pretty much no head.

S: Dark and woody smell. Cola nut, chocolate and a touch of raisin. Some charred wood as well.

T: Roasted malt and some faint chocolate. Tastes like an amped up brown minus the amped up mouthfeel.

On draft. 4 ounce pour in mini-snifter.
Appearance: Deep brown with a thin, tight layer of foam.
Smell: Very malty. Part molasses, part toffee. Well… mostly molasses.
Taste: If brown was a flavor, this would be it. Very sweet with a faint, citrusy, lingering aftertaste. Not a lot of balance, but that’s not unusual for the style.
Mouthfeel: Thick and heavy.
Overall: Pretty good. I can’t put my finger on why I’m not real excited about it. There’s nothing specifically wrong with it; it just didn’t hit my mark today. Maybe if it was cooler outside.

On tap at The Bruery in Placentia, CA.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks and dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, hazelnuts, and a mild coffee aroma. Taste is much the same with a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with some nice aromas and flavors.

A: This pours a mildly turbid brown with nice lacing at the edges, good carbonation.

S: There's some light brown sugar and hints of the bourbon from the Black Tuesday, caramello and maple syrup in oatmeal.

T: The brown ale is apparent with an nuttiness, almond, sweet bourbon and vanilla that finishes clean.

M: This is still a brown ale but a bit of a heaviness to the mouthfeel that is satisfying

D: this is exceptionally drinakble and imparts a huge caramel and nut presence and the BT lurking in the background pushes it over the top.
