On nitro tap at The Bruery in Placentia, CA.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oats, and slight cocoa. Taste is much the same with a cocoa flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and creamy mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

On nitro at The Bruery,

A: Pours black with a huge tan nitro head which has good retention as nitro beers tend to have, with solid thick lace.

S: Lots of roasted malt, coffee, fairly one-dimensional.

T: Heavy on the roasted malt, some creamed coffee, but I'm not really getting the sweetness and overall flavour profile that oatmeal tends to bring. Solid stout, but nothing wowing.

M: Thin and light-bodied, obviously from the nitro and this being so low in alcohol. Creamy at times, easy drinking.

O: This is an OK stout, really reminds me of Guinness on-tap, there's really not a lot to differentiate this as an Oatmeal stout as opposed to an IDS.

On tap at the Bruery, 100 customers, 2-3 dudes working the bar. Long lines.

Beer is black, very thin ring of beige head around it.

If this is a cookie aroma, then these are prune flavored cookies. I did not enjoy the smell. Came in expecting some nice cookie type of smell, anything but.

Taste, thin, bad mouthfeel. Where's the smoothness of the oats? Where is anything that tastes like a stout? There's some mild bitterness to the beer, but it just seems like a mess. There's nothing to say positive about this. Its thin, it lacks good flavor, what is there is neither oatmeal nor cookie, it tastes like a real stout was blended with water and prunes. Pass.

Nitro Tap to Goblet

App- This was a very nice looking beer. Had a slightly white meets brown/black color with that nitro head sitting atop it. A nice 3 finger cascading head that left some good cling lines down the glass. Nice and dense in the center.

Smell- I really didnt pick up much off of this beer. It was a bit grainular and crumbly, but I got more smells of creme and sugar. Not really getting the oatmeal from this either.

Taste- A lighter stout. Who woulda thunk from these guys. This was a slight bit of roast and a slight bit of malts intermixed with what the nose brought, that grainular creme and slightly bitter notes.

Mouth- A bit of a lighter body and seems a bit thin even on the nitro tap. A bit of a medium carbonation. A bit grainy chocolate and a little oat flake feel.

Drink- I was hoping for a bit more. Didnt have a good depth of flavor. Seemed a bit one dimensional.

The Bruery
Placentia, CA

Black in body with a moderately-sized dark brown head. Some nice retention and a bit of cling to the glass, but not as much as other nitro-stouts I'm familiar with. Pretty enough, though relatively standard for a beer of thie style.

Roasted malt and a bit of coffee in the aroma. Simple and straightforward. I don't get any oatmeal or raisin cookie in the aroma. A bit disapointed.

The flavor is very roast-forward with a touch of coffee and some sweetness. Very simple. No raisin or oatmeal, as with the aroma.

Medium bodied, creamy, silky carbonation.

I think the name does this beer no justice--inappropriately named. Leads to certain expectations which simply aren't met. Regardless, this is a straightforward, tasty, very drinkable stout.

A: Jet black with a thick lasting light mocha colored head.

S: Not great. Smells like guinness, which in my opinion is a bad thing. A little toast and a lot of bread.

T: Better then the smell but needs work. There is some roast, little coffee, and burnt toast flavors.

M: Very smooth, as one would expect from a nitro beer. I think this beer needs yo be twice or three times as heavy to pull of the nitro. I mistake the viscosity with water.

O: Not great, I would not recommend this beer. Normally, i love everything The Bruery puts out, but not this.
