this thing is awesome, a relic of the past i thought i may never get to try. one of the coolest cherry flavors in any beer, so intense and authentic that it almost seems fake, if thats even possible. murky brick red liquid with plenty of yeast hanging around and basically no head, which i think was the problem with this thing according to its creators, but i didn't really miss there bubbles honestly. mostly because the acidity is so high here, but carbonation shortage is not really on my mind. the nose is so fruit forward, tart though too, minimal sweetness, almost like a warhead in sourness, its incredibly lactic, but not without plenty of oak on it too to mellow its overall aroma and to add just a touch of darker charred smell. they call this a sour brown, but its light for that. not an oud bruin by any stretch, a much lighter (in color and flavor and density) malt bill, more red than brown in color. pink really. the cherries in the flavor just explode, and the tartness comes from both the bacteria cultures in this one and the fruit itself, which is short of ripe and very acidic. lemon notes with just a touch of cocoa malt, its very nicely done on all levels. the oak really brings it all together and frankly flavors the beer as much as the grain does. phenomenal use of cherries and just awesome beer overall. a bottle to share though, all the acidity can catch up with your guts, but what a treat this is!
