Notes/Commercial Description:
Imperial Loakal Red is just what you expect, a bigger, maltier, more intense version of our hoppy, oaky red ale. Coming in at nearly double the abv of regular Loakal Red, this beer retains the essence of the base beer with notes of citrus, vanilla and oak, but brings it all to that next level. Definitely a great one to share with friends.

a - poured a two-fingers thick dense, creamy tan head into a tulip glass that left great lacing throughout. the body was a dark red almost brown color.
s - citrusy and piney hops with a little booziness.
t - citrusy with some oak. a little hot with a woody and spicy finish.
m - medium body.
o - lots going on with this beer and it doesn't always quite mesh. maybe a little over the top.

wood forward amber beer type here, way more brown than red in color, but thats inconsequential because its red malt, sweet and toffee like that drive this beer. its got a nose and flavor that are decidedly grain driven, but balanced off with just enough hops, a little piney, but the sweetness still comes all the way through. aromas of vanilla from the oak are quite strong, but i get less of that in the taste. this has got a lot of caramel, almost to the point where its hard to drink a lot of it. i had trouble with the residual sugar, and the alcohol comes through probably a little more than it should, even though this is a beast. nice depth of malt flavor though, and the wood profile is strong throughout which makes it seem a little more well refined than it may in fact beer. good stuff from the bruery but a far cry from their best work in my humble opinion. a kitchen sink malt type, overly strong, but still darn tasty.
