Pours an opaque brown very close to black. The first pour us very heady. Thick bubbly mocha colored foam. Surprising for a beer of such alcohol content. Eventually dissolves to a thick ring around the glass.
The aroma is deep and complex. Fruit notes are most prominent. Classic english barleywine style dark fruits are clearly represented in the form of dates, raisins and figs. Secondly the aroma of warm toffee makes it seem like it will be a thick, sticky and sweet treat. As it warms to the appropriate/suggested temperature the barrel notes come through more clearly; Oak, vanilla and caramel.
Sweet malty character on the tip of the tongue. Bright crystal malts shine through in the form of buttered toast, cocoa powder and brown sugar. Fruit flavors of cherry and prune juice come through mid palate along with a peppery spice from the noticeable alcohol. Barrel notes come through quickly after with deep caramel, oak and vanilla. Slight notes of bourbon come through on the finish.
M - medium, very close to full bodied. Viscous texture with a slightly watery edge. High carbonation.
This is a fantastic beer. So smooth but complex. I'd gladly buy another one to enjoy for next year.

Bois pours a dark amber color with a nice large creamy lacing head. There is a strong aroma with alcohol notes, a sharp malt bite, and an overall scotch like aroma. The taste was much the same, sharp malt flavors, a kick form the alcohol, a bit sour, and scotch like flavors. Good full flavors, bold feel, and easy to drink. Overall a very complex and excellent beer.
