Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

The traditional fifth anniversary gift is something made of wood, or "Bois" in French.

Bois is our fifth anniversary ale, loosely brewed in the English-style Old Ale tradition using our house Belgian yeast strain and then blended using the solera method. A portion of each of our anniversary ales is saved in our barrels and blended in with the next year's production, providing more complexity and depth of character that comes with age. Layered with complex flavors of dark fruit, vanilla, oak, and burnt sugar, Bois is a robust ale, surely the perfect beer to mark this major milestone.

My wife and I celebrated our 5th wedding Anniversary recently and this was our brew of choice. Nice idea, huh?

Served in some gourmet, foo-foo, super expensive wine glasses.

A: Poured pretty much a deep, rich, leather-like brown maroon color, without much head to speak of. In the BBA world, that's not a factor anyway.

S: Super raison and bourbon-like with a tapered off sweetness that hit the snout just the right way. Molasses, dates, crushed Flintstone Vitamins can all be found here.

T: OMG. First off, I couldn't believe how smooth this was. Hell, even my beer-hating wife absolutely loved this. The bourbon washed over the dark fruit, giving it so much friggin dimension. You could actually taste every ingredient individually. Remarkable!

M: The sweet elements rolled off the tongue, inviting me to come back for more and more. Of course the carbonation was low, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.

O: With best new beer of 2013. As a matter of fact, it was the best one of 2012, 2011, and 2010 as well. My highest recommendation!
